62K miles too many??
^^^good thought. maybe you can negotiate a bit off for the accident.
either way, for the price, you can add some mods of some sort just to make it "your own".
just a thought.
good luck!

Don't forget, we just saw a 1 owner Turbo with 33k miles go for $48k and that car was accident-free.
Now, I doubt you'll find a deal like that unless you're REALLY patient, but it's something to think about. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...d.php?t=111630

I own INMOTIVE.... that Turbo was kind of goin to be my car but to me the E46 M3 is just more comfortable of a daily driver especially in Miami traffic. Yes it does have the Collision Repair Accident on it but all the panels on the car are all original. It's got paintwork. I had both the front and rear bumpers painted on it, I have put a new C4S Lip on it, the 997 GT3 RS Shift Linkage, and the 997 Porsche Key Head (aka the key looks like a 997 Key and the "911" lights up when you unlock or lock). I also had Vince at Gulf Performance service the car. In terms of conditions, it's in unreal shape for 62k miles. I will let it go for 44,500 ... to the people saying to discount 5,000 that's kinda of nuts. I welcome anyone to have it inspected by Vince at Gulf Performance (next to FVD USA). The car does need new tires in the rear and the Navigation Code is missing but for 44,500 you're getting one hell of a car. I loved the car because it has all the right options to me.

Did we ask for your opinion?

Hey guys, just a thought..Tim here at RPM north bought a 996TT with 60,000 plus miles on it.. brought it up to 680rwd hp. drove the car from NY to TEXAS ran the mile at 191mph.. does the quarter mile in 10.9 at 140mph and has not yet had a problem with the stock block.
That's a little harsh.
Guy comes in here and offers up some info on a car someone asked a question about. No reason to be rude to him.
Seems like a pretty sweet deal for the price.

Why must it be a joke?
The E46 M3 has better visibility in the form of fewer blind spots and a higher driving position, more communicative steering and brakes. Though I agree the 996tt is a far better car overall, in traffic, the E46 is a much better choice.

Why not offer up a Subaru STI or a Cadallac CTS-V? Where does it stop?
Oh, and "more communicative steering and brakes" this certainly MUST have been a joke.
Well, if the OP asked pro/cons of the M3.v 911TT I'd understand. The OP asked NOTHING about an M3 and this is a 911 Turbo forum. Why did someone feel the need to offer an M3 as an alternative to a 911tt? I'm not too sure how an E46 M3 is even in the same ballpark as a 996 911tt. Apples/oranges

It is pretty obvious that he mentioned that the M3 is a better heavy-traffic commuter (and it is) as an explanation as to why he was selling the 996. One can infer that he already has an M3.
Someone asked about a car he was selling - all he did was post up some pertinent info. Not cool that he's getting attacked for it.
That aside, I do agree with you that the 996tt is an order of magnitude more car than the M3 overall. In fact, that is why I recently sold an E46 M3 for a 996tt and couldn't be happier with my decision to do so. Consequently I know both cars very well.
Yes - the 996tt is far better overall, but not in every situation.
It is a fact that the M3 has more communicative steering and brakes. Not better, or more powerful - they aren't. But the lighter steering and better brake bite and feedback, along with better visibility make it a better commute weapon. Sorry if that makes me a heretic to point that out.
Am I missing something here? Here is the OP's original post:
This was all he asked. Maybe I missed someones subsequent post, I thought I read through carefully. Unless I missed something, why did someone bring up an E46 M3? I just don't get it....
PS. An E46 M3 is a fine car, I just don't see why it got introduced into THIS thread.
nice looking 01 996tt here at a decent price - but with 62K miles. Stay away??

Let me break it down for you then...
1) OP posts link to car for sale, asks if it is a good deal
2) Various opinions are offered, including carfax info indicating prior collision damage
3) Seller somehow becomes aware of the question and posts up info on collision damage repairs, and offers up additional info on car, including the answer to the common "why are you selling" question, which happens to be that he decided on an M3 instead, as it suits his needs better.
Seems pretty clear.
The only thing I don't understand is why the seller got dissed so hard by you two.
