Vibration in the clutch pedal...??
Vibration in the clutch pedal...??
I've noticed that when going thru the gears, when I shift into second and third, I can feel what seems like a vibration when there's pressure on the pedal as I release the clutch...mostly in the last half of travel. I've tried depressing and sort of riding the clutch in 5th and 6th while cruising along, and I get no feeling of any vibration.
Is this something unusual, or is it just feeling the gears thru the pedal? The vibration can best be described as not harsh, but very fast like it was in concert with the rpm's.

I still have a CPO warranty until September of 08. Is this something that would be covered under CPO? What exactly does the accumulator do? The only other thing I've noticed that when starting out in first or second under fairly good acceleration, there sort of a noise like when you blow air over the top of a beer bottle....a hollow sort of whistle. Any connection to the accumulator? Or am I becoming the equivalent of a mechanical hypochondriac?
Thats is insane. I just replaced mine in about 2 hours and the part is about $100.

That's probably the diverter valves releasing boost pressure into where ever it goes(intake?). I might be totally wrong, but I have that noise under similar circumstances.
I think the accumulator is for reserve pressure for the clutch hydraulic assist.
you can test your accumulator very easy,if your clutch pedal is hard after one day or so (motor not running) than it should be replaced.

Chuck,
A buddy of mine with an '03 X50 has exactly the same issue. I drove his car and experienced it too. Sort of a buzz/vibration in the clutch, like that kid's practical joke/game where you shake someone's hand with a little silver buzzer in your hand.
Anyway, like you, my buddy has been searching for solution. If you confirm that it's the acumulator, let us know on this thread because I sent him the link. Thanks.

GBG: You described the condition exactly...a buzzer...high frequency vibration. The car will be going via flatbed into Porsche today.
I took it to Ron at IPB yesterday to let him assess it and he noticed a slight miss...which quite frankly I never noticed. I drove the car home, garaged it, then took it out later and when I fired it up, it felt like it was running on 4 cylinders. Warning light came flashing on to drive to dealership. I hadn't gone a block so I turned around and parked it in the Garage. It sputtered and gagged up the slant in the drive way with the dash warning light flashing. Ron came by and put it on the computer...showed Fault codes are Random Misfire P0300, P0303 Cyl #3, P0305 Cyl #5, P0205 Inj failure Cyl #5 and overboost exceeded curve (whatever that means). This is the second time this has happened, but the first time, the condition cleared when I turned it off and restarted it. This time, I'm not going to try that...It's going to the dealership with the codes showing.
I'm hoping this is all covered under the CPO....it only has 24 K on the clock, so if it's plugs, Ron says they should take care of it, but I'm thinking that plugs might be classified as one of those "expendables" like they classify brakes or light bulbs etc. Can anyone address whether CPO covers plugs at 24K? I'm thinking they should last till 30K.
While it's at Niello Porsche, I'll have them check that vibration and get back to you with their analysis on the accumulator.

Well, it turns out they said they found the problem...they ended up replacing the mass air flow sensor, cleared all the faults, did a diagnostic and found a leak in the diverter valve where someone (self inflicted gunshot wound
) had failed to properly install the hose clamp on one of the new EVO Diverter Valves...so I got nailed for that...they replaced the hose clamp, new air filter and that was it. The CPO covered everything except for the time on the hose clamp. The car runs very strong...and I'm back into a steady 1.0 bar at WOT with a peak at 1.1. Not bad for pretty much stock.
Insofar as the strange codes...I dont' have an answer on those except that the condition is documented so that when my CPO runs out, I do have a record that this condition did exist while it was in effect. Damn gremlins I guess. With respect to the vibration in the clutch...they didn't seem to think that it was an issue. I personally think that the CELs are going to come back because I can't imagine that a mass air flow sensor is going to throw all those codes on several occasions. I would have liked to have seen them at least take a look at cylinder #5 along with the coil pack....but like I said, the condition is documented. I think that a new set of plugs might be something for me to think about. According to the the dealership's schedule, they're not due for 60K!
One thing I did find out is that CPO doesn't cover nearly as much as I thought, but that they wouldn't give me any sort of documentation on what exactly is covered. According to the dealership, they'll tell you at the time the symptoms appear if that particular part is covered. I asked if there was even some sort of summary sheet I could have, and was told no...the dealership lets you know at the time you take it in...sort of classified information I guess. Does anyone on the forum have any info on CPO coverage? It doesn't sound logical that you'd pay for coverage and not know exactly what you're being covered for....there certainly are a lot of exclusionary items.
