I would not recommend Launch control or doing hole shots with a 996TT. The front of the trans at the drive coupler and the shafts at the viscous coupler have a habit of failing from this in the AWD cars.

That's funny. With all of the guys drag racing on this board, I haven't heard of this (^^) even once. Please correct me if I'm misinformed.

Many of them may have 2 wheel as a GT2 and not relies it. This is why Porsche only started the Launch assist on the GT2 and not the 997TT. You can always simply check your car by putting it on a lift and spin either the front or rear wheels by hand in neutral. The other two should spin as well, if not then it is 2 wheel drive now.

This is INcorrect. Last week I put on my "winter wheels". I changed the fron then the rear. While the front was in the air I rotated the wheels and both fronts rolled, the rear was on the floor. Yesterday in the rain I was breaking all four wheels loose, BADLY. I have never had the front shaft out or the AWD touched in any way.

I think you missed the point....
To check the AWD front to rear all four wheels are put in the air and you rotate either the front or rear to see if the other spins. Should the other diff front or rear spin then it is OK. Jacking up the front or just the rear only checks the front or rear dif not the drive line with viscous coupler that connects both. This is standard check on all AWD Porsche cars.
