Suggestions for 2001 TT Purchase

I am contemplating the purchase of a 996 TT and am aware of the glove box/cup holder not on the 2001 but are there any other reasons I should be looking at a later car? My price range would most likely be for a 2001 or 2002. From reading some posts there seems to be a second gear pop out problem with some cars but I haven't figured if there are specific years for this problem.

The X50 factory power package was not an option in '01 models if you would like it.

Not sure about the US market but it seems alot of '01 models came with the heavier solid spoke wheels compared to hollow spokes (the wheels look the same outside.)

These two came to my mind...so nothing huge...

Like Kaizu said, nothing huge for differences ... I would let the quality of the car dictate my choice. Early '01's had solid spoke wheels and front bumperrettes. All '01's had no glovebox. Arguable as to whether the '01's are lighter and less stiff than the later years (a search will turn up numerous threads on these topics and more). The '01's had FR5 spark plugs as OEM, later changed to FR6 on the '02's and later years, but may not make a difference as the plugs may have already been changed on an '01.

Good luck with your search. Be patient, there are many cars out there.

2001 with 41K miles logged now. It came with hollow spokes, FR6 plugs, no bumperettes, no problems.

hey t-bob
welcome aboard. i just bought my first 996tt and it was a 2003. i thought my budget was good for only a 2001 or 2002 but in looking, i was able to find a number of 2003's that were close enough in terms of price that i felt it was worth it. i leaned towards the latest affordable model (equipped as I desired- low miles, etc) simply for value/depreciation reasons and I did like the cosmetic changes in the post 2002 996. I just went through the domestic market so if you feel comfortable sharing your budget, we may be able to help you find what you want. you can pm me if you want.
