What ym saying is that the 996 is as easy as setting up a Honda and if it takes 1 hour to do a Honda, it should take that long to do a 996. Porsche made everything fixed on teh 996, there is hardly anything to be aligned except for the steering tie rod and camber. Unless if i am proven wrong with facts, i see no reason spending over $100 for an alignment.
Don't forget about rear camber and rear toe as well. There is a special tool for getting into the rear camber adjusting nut, not saying you couldn't do it with general tools, I've never tried. There is a method to the madness and then there is getting all the numbers to work together as well. Also, we calibrate steering angle sensors after every alignment, usually not an issue, but if there is a problem with the steering wheel not being centered(prior to alignment), and it is far enough outside of the tolerance window, it will trigger the PSM light.

Obviously no one here is going to change your views then. Just keep in mind how valid these points really are. I have aligned many many cars, and a Porsche is not as cut and dry as a civic. There are adjustments on the rear, and to corner balance, well you have to have the correct equipment, some special tools and the skills to match. Les schwab isn’t going to do as good, or as thorough of a job as a good specialized shop, it’s just a fact. 120 a piece for a corner balance and alignment is a really good price. When it comes down to it at the end of the day I would rather take a 240$ job and be confident it was done to its fullest extent by some one who wont leave the jam nuts loose. It really is a small price to pay for good results.

Not picking on your comments, but really the question is 'what is the cheapest you should expect to pay to have it done right?'

If $100 is too little is $200 for an alignment adequate for all the special tools and knowledge? or $300?

How many hours at shop rate is 'fair'?

It isn't right to simply say 'more expensive is always better'.

Those are the exact price ranges that i was expecting to see. Not $600-700! Thanks, i already made an appointment with lucent motors. They are charging $160 which is better than what the dealer was asking. I will give that place a shot the next time i need an alignment.

You can't go wrong with Lucent. No matter what they charge for what ever job, those guys are fair and will never try to rip you off. They are just not like that. If they do cost more than others, be assured you will get that much more in service and quality.
