ECU swap?
I agree with nerdhotrod completely ! I had an evoms program that i wish i could have sold instead of loosing out $3k . I wouldn't ask to make multiple copies for resale or for hand-outs, as in the case of many Microsoft products. As long as no-one is making copies of a program, its no different then reselling a used dvd, a book, ect. You owned, sold it (most likely at a loss) and you no longer have the product nor can benefit from it.
True on the IMOB. However I was pointing out that the VIN is in the flash also and was just correcting your statement that it was not. No More and no less.
The actual flash memory on the dme does NOT have to be changed to clone an ecu from one car to another ...Thats my point. It has nothing to do to with the "tuned" file that needs to be changed to move one ecu from one car to another. =)
You dont have to read both DME's to do this....just Imob info.
This imob info is 100% porsche and 0% aftermarket tuner.

Wow, 3k..... Pricey. I guess using a tuner that offers a lifetime transfer would be good and then there would be no problems.

Lifetime transfers is a nice feature
I would suggest that you check again, the vin is in each and every flash since the 5.2.2 DME.
I do not know, you would have to ask Protomotive.
I'm kind of curious as to why some think it is not legally permissible to transfer an ECU engine management program from one car to another. Does GIAC, Proto or whomever *license* their respective programs to their customers? In that case, the license would probably control, as it is the agreement between the car owner and the tuner. The license could say, for example, that the licensee (car owner) cannot transfer it to another car, which would answer the question. Does anyone have a copy of that license, if it exists at all? I also wonder if these programs are copyrighted...tho I assume they are. In that case, I assume the original Bosch program is copyrighted as well, which would raise questions as to whether the tuner-modified versions of the Bosch program infringe the Bosch copyright. Just some vagrant thoughts.
Hi Gents, do a search and you will see that Bosch has sued many people and won. Latest was for the BMW335s! If you try to pull out a file it has code from the writer that can not be removed, a copyright file. I feel it is a fruitless act with no warranty or tech support. Just my two cents.

Well someone can send bosch after Len Stoler Porsche in Maryland because they used their PWIS to reprogram my ecu and it had a flash on it!!!! oh no!
These flashes are expensive enough anything we can do to recoop the price I am all for it. Is this forum for whist blowing or for helping each other out? I think hotrodnerd is trying to do the latter and I appreciate it.

Hi cohare, Who ever you purchase the flash from will reflash the car for free(or small shipping/handling fee) as long as you were the buyer of the flash and your vin # matches there records. If anyone brings there flashed car to the dealer they will up load all the updates and over write you flash! I hope this helps,
Tim
PS I deal with this at least twice a month.

You really need two, one stock and one modified. The modified one can be installed prior to going to the dealer for service (if you are still in warranty) and the modified ECU can stay with you if you sell the car.
What truly sux is that you spend the coin on a "tune" and you truly only have "access" to it for your benefit. It is what it is...
The flip side of the coin is the cost these tuners have in creating the tuning packages. It isn't cheap and selling tunes only recoups tremendous investment in the equipment to creat the tunes.
No win situation. At some point hopefully these tunes will come down to earth in price...
