I don't think anything anyone can say in oposition without an "off-topic" situation breaking out....

I'd just like to say OFF-TOPIC and move right along 145 in the fastlane...
My son is a Marine in Iraq right now and I respect your service to our country. Moving right along then is a good idea.

the MAIN reason for the scanner is that sometimes we have "outtings" on jones beach.. which is about 10 miles, 2 lanes wide.. 0 cars after midnight, and plenty of straights...
i would never speed on streets.. thats just risky (not so much for a ticket, but for other variables, people, etc)

Are you kidding me??? Aren't we on a Porsche forum? A Toyota Camry gets you to the exact same place "...within the limit" same as a Porsche, right?

I'm not condoning excessive speeds on public highways, but please!!!!!?? I've worked for one District Attorney's Office and two city prosecutor's offices and will tell you the marginal speeder's are municipalities' meal tickets. The irony is that the excessive speeders are usually restricted from high speed chases and dispatch will not authorize chase, so those typically are not even prosecuted. So, it's my opinion that the random, good, law abiding citizen that get's screwed. Why? Because, we're the ones who care and will stop. That sporadic burst of speed when no one else is around and not reckless doesn't hurt anyone.

More power to anyone who tries to avoid traffice stops, scanners. laser diffusers or radar detecters. Standard speed stops are modern day extortion and NOTHING MORE. Anyone who thinks differently is fooling themselves.
