Convert 996tt manual to auto

To the shop guys, and any others who care to comment. Can you give me a ballpark estimate on the cost to convert a 2002 996tt from manual to automatic? I'm looking at a fellow 6speeder's car, but prefer an auto or tiptronic transmission. I understand that most everyone else probably prefers manual, so go easy on the new guy, thanks, Howard.

Doubt that it would be worth the money. Unless you're getting an incredibly low deal, just wait until you find a tiptronic you like.

All things being equal, Tips are cheaper. I'm seeing low mileage '02-'04 in the low to high 50's. Comparable 6spds go for $5-10K more. Why pay for a 6spd and the additonal cost of retrofit when you can save $$$ with an OEM Tip.

Why would you do that? Tips are cheaper to start with. Buy one that is exactly the way you want it.

The headaches of doing such a modification and the fact that tips are not really that hard to find would lead me to agree with the others- just get a tip. To top it off, resale would probably be down the tube with the specs optioned initially as a manual and yet showing a tip gearbox.
