help buying first porsche?

I graduated school in May and its time to buy the car I've dreamt about for the last 6 years! I found a car on the forum (silver 01 996tt fs) that has everything I was looking for. However, the car used to have Gemballa K16 turbos and he sold them and swapped back to the stock turbos. It also has exhaust, intake, headers, bovs, and a Gemballa stage 3 chip. The car is amazing and everything seems in order with 26,xxx miles on it. Im planning to fly down and check it out in a few weeks. What things should I look for? Should I be worried about the mods and swapping turbos out?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
-Johnny

No worries on turbo swapping or the mods. Who's selling the car? Can anyone vouch for the car's quality?

Just listen for any weird noises (rattle, clunking, etc...) and check for the 2nd gear pop out. Do this by running it all the way to red in second gear then let off and let it wind down. Otherwise you should be good. Especially if they were a board member. Good luck man!

if it is being sold by a member here you could be fairly confident the car was handled properly. i would still never buy a car of this sort without getting a very thorough pre purchase inspection at a trusted porsche mechanic. do a search and i think there is a sticky on this board about the second gear pop out issues. if it checks out and the price is right, pull the trigger. good luck.

I hate to sound like an old man (like I am), but do have a good job? You will need money to maintain it...Is covered under any long term warranty? Seriously do not think it is the best first car, but whatever...drive safe.

Thanks for the replies! The car is on this forum, its from member GT650-25. And I just graduated this past May as a pharmacist, but didn't get licensed until August so i have a down payment and a salary to afford the payments so i'm checking loans tomorrow. I have a daily driver to rack up the miles so this will be the summer weekend car.

This is a great time to buy a 996 TT. I would try to buy a car with an extended warranty. When things break on these cars it can be very expensive.

Be patient and look at many cars until you find the one that fits your needs. It is a buyer's market.

Nice reward for a long road, congratulations.
