How Far Can You Push The K16s ???

How far can you push K16 before they become inefficient. 520hp ?

I was thinking of doing: Fabspeed Exhaust (40hp), Intake (20hp), 1.0psi Chip (75hp) and racegas (10hp) for the drag strip. Thats about 565hp theoretically.

But I heard that anything over 1.0psi taxes/overheats the K16 turbos and renders them inefficient. So are all these other mods harmful/useless to K16 turbos?

What the effective max hp/psi on the K16s...??? Thanx

When you say the track are you talking about road racing, or drag strip?

With just a Fabspeed, K&N, and a EVO Stage 2 computer w/ Race file I went 11.8s @ 118 with a slipping clutch. I know Jimmer has been 11.6s @ 123-127 so has Divexxtreme and Autoconnections (11.4)

The most PSI that you will see in 1.0 BAR, anything after that its not working .I would say in HP terms you should be OK with 515- 525 range pending on the other mods of course. Also with the mods you want I dont think you will see that your hoping..not real world HP.

2 more points of reference for you from the east coast dyno day:
1. Chip, Intake, Exhaust, Headers - 418awhp, 475tq
2. Chip, Exhaust - 420awhp, 488tq

Results from the west coast dyno day were similar.

Save yourself some time and money, just do K24's or 16/16G right off the bat, you will be far better off.

+1 16/16g is going to give you best bang for your buck. A well tuned 16g with an exhaust (and wastegates and 5 bar if needed) will put down close to 600 bhp.

Wow, disapointing....What kind of exhaust was used ?

Drag. I did 12.2 on K16 Triptronic with minor exhaust. I only did two runs, i know its pretty bad but i'm still learning...

I thought the EVO Stage 2 software is for upgraded turbos ? How would you beable to use that, at what PSI, link ?

What i'm getting from everyone is to just stick to exhaust and chip i guess for now. Isn't the 16/16G experimental. Is this product even out yet ?

How much ?? How many people even have this system...isn't it safer to just go with what has already been around for a long time and tested by a hundred of Pcars or so ? Sounds risky to go for an experimental turbo system.....

Most ecu tuned cars with K24s at 1.1 or 1.2 bars produce somewhere around 540 to 570 hp so how do you guys expect to push that much as stated above in some comments out of K16s.. proof is on the black strip... a K24 car runs 122 to 124 mph... a K16 at 1 bar tuned will not even hit 120 mph.( aside from a few guys that had some unique results that is).
markski
ps. the best dyno is the black dyno.... you cannot cheat that one...

There's nothing really experimental about them. It's just a K16 housing with a Mitsubishi 16g compressor wheel. Nothing too exotic going on there (same basic principle as a K24/18g but on a smaller scale).
As for software, I'm a bit partial to EPL software given my results.

Last time at the strip I averaged 122.50mph over 10 runs with a best of 124.40mph. This was at 17psi - just on the island. Previously at about 23psi I hit a best of 126.50mph before the latest round of minor intake mods and EVOM intercoolers. Running more boost than 17psi is inefficient yes, and will lower the lifespan of the turbos, sure. As will most mods really. Pumping heat can be offset with upgraded intercoolers. We'll see this spring, but I think the limit for K16's will be somewhere in the 128mph range at 11.3's.

As Seal stated, EPL has proven results. I'm sure Softronic will produce results close to these as well.

did you use upgraded springs? If so that makes sense then... Also, the original post was about 1 bar program and I assume with stock WG springs ... with that said one can never run 122 mph on K16s at 1bar...
Your one of the exceptions... the other is Scott( LOL).
My point was that in the original post the person thought he can get 565 hp out of K16s at 1 bar with exhaust etc... and in my opinion unless you are trapping 122+ mph you do not have 550 hp...
