Porsche charger fried my battery.
What is it that makes the 996tt's battery drain so quickly? I live in a high rise so there is no outlet near my car and I am constantly having to pull out the battery and recharge it. Does having the alarm disabled through programming help or upgrading the alternator and battery? Any help appreciated.
The battery is basically undersized in the name of weight savings. The car has so much electronics in it that draw even when the car is off. There is a larger battery that will fit from interstate.
I just ordered the interstate MTP-93. Good to know its a direct fit. Is the battery vented? Do I need a vent kit when I install this battery?
Do you have the Porsche charge-o-mat or the charge-o-mat II battery maintainer? Since my car sits for the winter I was looking into trickle chargers. Should I go with something else other then the porsche maintainer? I like how it just plugs into the cig plug.
Duane,
I have to respectfully disagree on this. The vent isn't merely for venting gasses....it is possible for fluid/acid to also be "vented." The tube acts as a means to direct it out of the car. Without the tube, you could "vent" the acid down the side of the battery and into the car.

Sorry I missed the follow-up question. Yes the Interstate battery is vented and the tube connects perfectly. In stal the Interstate maintainer while you're at it. Connects right to the terminals with a plug-in cable that connects to the charger.
is it the Ctek charger that's giving you guys problems?
That's odd, i've been using those and "battery tenders" for YEARS with zero issue.
Just installed the 4 bank battery tender in our garage....dad's porsche is still using the Ctek though

the II with starting 955 part number on it. there's really no new or old from Porsche. the 955 one is a Cayenne part number that came out later than the 980 (which came with CGT. 980 is a CGT part number). my understanding is the 980 one is just a tender but a 955 one is the charger & maintainer. i don't know what went wrong but clearly the 955 one fried my battery. same thing happened in the garage which i could smell acid. when the battery was taken out one of the cell was completely dried...
