Alarm chirp?

Hey guys, A quick question. Is there any way at all to get the standard alarm system on the 996 Turbo to chirp while locking and unlocking the car using the standard key remote? Is not, what is the simplest way to add this feature on? Hopefully not a new aftermarket alarm system? Any help appreciated!

I would like to know also. I have to keep looking at the headlight/taillight for the flash to confirm locking/unlocking. Sometimes I forget to look and have no idea if it was locked.

The only "solution" I have ever heard is to unlatch the center console, causing the chirp showing a fault. Not really a solution, though...

as a default, when you lock the car the horn should sound once, no sound when the car unlocks, just light indicators. when locking, press the lock button on the remote 2x rapidly, if you push just once you will be in "silent" mode.

Fantastic info, thanks! It works just as you say. I think there is just one disadvantage though, I believe locking it twice turns the motion sensor off.

If you leave a fault sensor in "open" position (like the center console lid) or if you hit the button twice you will disable the interior motion sensor. The beep you hear is to tell you there is a fault in the alarm system...it is not confirming the alarm is set. There is no way to set the factory alarm to give an audible alert for locking or unlocking.

Depending on the year model, I have a 2004 TT and can get a RemoteTop; same place that you get your SmartTop. It has all these functions +. You just missed the last group buy. Just search for SmartTop and look at their website.

Thanks for the clarification. This ie very helpful to know. I guess my next question would be is that what would be the least expensive aftermarket upgrade I could get that would give the 'chirp' capability while both locking and unlocking the car without actually creating a fault situation. Any help appreciated.

RemoteTop has these functions... thanks to Matthew at GMP Performance, the last group buy was about $240 per unit.
  • 996 Cab: Operate the soft-top with your original factory-supplied remote-key(s), no reprogramming of the key(s) or the car necessary. A Selectable One-Touch operation will, once started, complete the soft-top cycle automatically by itself.
  • 996 Coupe & Boxster: Operate the windows (and sunroof on 996 Coupe) with the original factory-supplied remote-key(s), no reprogramming of the key(s) or the car necessary. A Selectable One-Touch operation will, once started, close the windows (and sunroof) or open the windows automatically by itself.
  • 996 Cab & Boxster: Selectable "Always-Arm" Mode, which will enable the passenger cabin ultra-sound motion detector alarm when the soft-top is OPEN.
  • All vehicles: Selectable Lock-In feature locks the doors once you start the vehicle or start moving. In contrast to the original Porsche Lock-In feature which can only be enabled or disabled at the dealership, our controller lets you decide if you want that feature, and even better, it also UNLOCKS the doors when you switch the engine off. A detail the Porsche engineers seemingly forgot.
  • All vehicles: Comfort window control allows you to use the electric windows for 15 more minutes after you turn the ignition off. Also enables window control after you have unlocked your car with the remote control. This allows you to sit inside and IMMEDIATELY use the power-windows, no need to put the key into ignition first.
  • Bonus Feature: Audible feedback ("chirps") using the alarm horn when locking/unlocking the car by remote. (For technical reasons this feature is not guaranteed to work on all models / model years).

There have been several problems associated with remotetop...do a search. They even say it may or may not work. I know of no easy solution.
