Rear Wing

Lets discuss our rear wing; lift, downforce, stock versus aero (is there more downforce). Any solid tech data available (links) would be great...

Porsche does wind tunnel testing. The units supplied with our cars are balanced (OEM)...so c4s front to nothing in back, stock front and back, aero front and back...etc.

That is the limit of what I am "sure" about. I don't know if TechArt, etc., do the same level of testing.

If my memory serves me well, I read somewhere that our cars obtain zero lift at max velocity and that the rear spoiler generates about 17.5kg down force to help in achieving this.

Older Porsches like my 944 Turbo S definitely generated down force. The faster I went the more it sucked to the ground – I could really feel it. I don’t get this feeling in my 996TT. I must say I miss that. :-(.

Anyone had OEM wing and replaced it with aero or an aftermarket one and actually noticed increased down force at high speed?

I have an aero front and TA type 1 c/f rear...and I notice more down force. I had the stock in front for a bit with this wing (bought from a 6er...techart)....and the car felt a bit unbalanced....hence my first post. I think the gt2 stuff in particular needs to be done in a symmetric fashion if you drive over 85 mph ever.... if not, probably less critical.

This is just an uneducated opinion..... My car is balanced now. I would advocate only buying things in "pairs".....

benguss is infamous around these parts
I believe autosport magazine (german) when they tests cars on the data sheet it shows car at 120mph showing the lift in kg's. Let me look around and see if I can find it.

Yes, the good tuners do wind tunnel testings. TechArt, Manthey, RUF etc...But on a side note who knows for how long, because at least many guys in this forum are completely happy to use cheap replica parts in their otherwise expensive cars.

Got a Type I bodykit from TechArt and have somewhere a photo of the wind tunnel test procedure...At least the car has been very stable during 320-330km/h runs on the Autobahn as well as on the Nürburging

The German Sport Auto magazine indeed tests the cars front and rear lift at 200 km/h, it's always a great article! 996TT got some quite good numbers but they haven't tested one with the Aerokit (which presumably is a bit better of course.)
