TX2K8 ULTIMATE Street Car Competition Update
Bwahahahahaaha That was
.
The more I think about it, the more impressed I am that Marty and Sean not only went to this event, but had the ***** to run all four of the individual competitions (and do well in all four competitions). This speaks volumes about both of these guys and the well rounded, all purpose cars they have built. I salute both of you for putting it on the line (and everyone else who showed up and entered the competitions). You guys could have stood on the side lines and watched, but instead, you put your cars on the line and let the chips fall where they will. You risked falling on your face. You risked your car not living up to expectations. You transcended the talk and put yourself and your cars to the test. And, in the end, both of you excelled and did an outstanding job representing Porsche. Kudos gentlemen on a job VERY well done.
I note that several other Porsches attended the event, including some very high HP builds. However, other than some anecdotal references to informal street races, I have not seen any formal competition results for these cars. Rob, I know you were really looking forward to this event, and you talked it up a ton in advance. I heard that your car was running strong at the street races. Did you enter any of the four formal competitions? Dyno? 1/4 mile? 60-130? Scott, I read about some of your street races. Did you enter any of the four formal competitions? Peter, I heard that you had you car there as well. Did you enter any events? Vivid also had its shop car there. Did they enter any of the formal competitions. The reason I ask is that Marty and Sean have tremendous all purpose cars, but we all know there are other more powerful Porsches out there that should do better on the dyno and in the 1/4 mile and 60-130 competitions. I was really looking forward to hearing how these other high HP cars fared.
Thanks,
Craig

Chris,
Thanks you very much. I am appreciate that you understand the level of commitment that this competition took. There are outstanding street and 60-130 racers. There are excellent road racers. There are those very skilled at the 1/4 miles. However there are not many like Marty and his friend Eric who are able to compete in all 4.
Also, there is a lot of risk of car damage that I have learned about first hand.

Craig,
In Scott's defense, he had to leave early to spend some time with his wife. I know normally that may sound like a bull**** excuse, but in Scott's case it really is true. The guy has to go back to service in Iraq and for all his wife knows this may be her last chance to see him.
And the street racing scene here in Houston is the ultimate. A night out in Houston counts as at least one event in my book.

LOL...he did show up however with an empty 5 gal jug sitting in his passenger seat at Frankensteins friday night...was he ready for some late night action or was this from earlier in the day...??
How'd the car turn out Paul...? They were still working on a few things last we talked. We all need to gtg again one day/evening at Tommy's for another fun run.

Sean, I agree a night in Houston does count as one of the events. Hell I drove 13 hours in my car - ran the road course, ran the drag day, night pulls, and 60-130 runs on the way to dinner, then drove my car home starting at 11 pm getting back to Nashville Easter Sunday at Noon. Thats commitment, you local guys are lucky!!! LOL
Hi... At Atco you have to go over water as well. I ran a 10.93@139.9 air temp was 26 deg. I have posted this in previous posts. One lane had a oil spill and the other had anti-freeze. My 60 ft was 1.88.

Sean is exactly right. To be specific, my previous and upcoming schedule looks like this:
-Returned home from serving 5.5 months in Iraq, immediately go back to work for 1 month.
-Find time to use only 3 of the 80+ days of leave that I currently have on the books, right before attending a week long Advanced Tactical Shooting course away from home.
-Return home friday night, then Saturday morning fly to Jacksonville to visit friends until Tuesday, head to Arkansas to see Todd and Cynthia until Wedesday, and then drive 15 hours to Houston, arriving at 3:00 am on Thursday.
-Stay in Houston until early Saturday morning (missing both the 60-130 and drag day comps), then return home 1.5 days before leaving again (at 5:00 am this morning) for 1 week of Advanced tactical Electronics training (where I'm currently at now....again away from home).
-I have training next week at home (thankfully), but then the following week I begin 5 straight weeks of training on the other side of the country.
I then return home for 2 weeks, and then leave again an undetermined amount time for further training...all leading up to another 5 month deployment to Iraq commencing in November.
So yes...time with my family is extremely precious for me. If I have to miss a few events at TX2K8 to spend some quality time with my wife (who could not attend due to work conflictions)...so be it.
My primary reasons for attending the event were (in order):
1. To meet other 6speed members.
2. To participate in the evening street scene.
I already have dyno numbers for my car, will get in both 60-130 and dragstrip runs once my car is back home and I have some free time...and I wasn't interested in drivjng my car on the roadcourse.
So even though I was there for only 2 days; I accomplished what I wanted to accomplish and had a blast.
