Unhappy Tail Lights - Flakiness / Field Service Manual

Went for a drive with a bunch of my friends today. Through the day, we discovered that both my tail lights were 'out'. Seemed like a strange coincidence that they were working at one point during the drive, and then both went out (someone though I didn't turn my lights on in the mountains). I just thought it was a bad coincidence. When I got home, I checked again, and sure enough both tail lights were out. Tried a few minutes later, and they came on. i have been trying to reproduce this 'issue' on and off this evening and can't seem to get it to reproduce again.

Anyone else have this problem ? Any ideas ?

btw... anyone know a good source for a field-service-manual (e.g. reference manual for the car mechanics, electrical, etc. something the porsche mechanics use ? ) Something I can start using as a reference and help guide me through any kind of DIY that I may venture into ?

Thanks,

Andy

Sounds like you might have a faulty headlight switch contact in the switch assembly. Try wiggling the switch when you have that problem again and see what happens. Now as far as manuals, it depends what model and year you have. Forget trying to get the manuals for 996 and TTs because the are Porsche's money makers at the moment.

Try this website for more technical questions that may come up. It a very good source of information.

Thanks for the tip and reference. So, Porsche is hoarding the information ? :-(

Is this specific to 996's ? Or are they doing this for all years (just curious). I specifically want a 996 TT manual.

Thanks,

Andy
