I have both V1 & K40. I can hear the V1 go off but the K40 I can only hear at idle.

Both the V1 and the Escort X50 are great units. I have the X50 and my buddy has the V1. Both have never let either of us down. Has definately saved my a$$ more than once.

I have them both. I find the V1 goes off a little sooner than the K40 with front radar (most likely do to the fact that the V1 is positioned higher than my K40 radar pod), but the K40 goes off sooner when radar is from the rear. IF I had to choose between the two, I would probably pick the V1 because I find front radar detection is more important. I often think about moving the front K40 radar pod into the interior next to the V1 to see if they would go off at the same time, but just haven't had the time to run this "test" yet.

I had the K40 system wired into one of my cars about 5 years ago. Have a V1 also. Ran the two simutaneously and both worked well...better than my old Passport. When I got scientific about it, and kept track of false alarms, the V1 was much, much better. In the same 30 min drive on the highway, the K40 gave off 7-8 false alarms, where the V1 did not go off once. Range on the V1 was also noticably better than K40, for both types of radar. The K40 may have been out of date, (about 2 yers old at the time), but the V1 outperformed it hands down.

Without question, the V-1 is the absolute best on the market. I have one in every car I own.

V1 is the only way to go

With the arrows it's simply the best for "situational awareness" as they say in the ads. You always know where the threat is.

V1 used daily and has worked more years than I can remember (at least 8+ years) Use it to call attention to your speed, not to exceed the speed limit; and it will protect you most of the time. Beware the instant on....hope you can pick up a brief signal when they shoot the other guy. Pays for itself.

EZMoney: You mentioned that the V1 picked up a radar signal from the rear and you slowed down and a CHP unit passed you. I was unaware that the radar is set up to record your speeds while the police vehicle is moving....and in this case moving in your direction and still calculating speed while either catching up or maintaining a distance behind?

I've never owned a detector...and never really felt the need....but if it's picking up from a moving police vehicle from the rear that's tracking your speed...that's a revelation to me. Can they also pick up speeds from a moving police vehicle coming towards you? That would have to calculate his speed and compensate...sort of like a tare weight.

Yes, they can pick up your speed coming at you...I just got a ticket 2 weeks ago that way. The officer was coming at me on a 4-lane interstate highway. He was going 70+ mph and I was doing 75 mph (65 mph speed limit). He slowed down, made a u-turn and pulled me over. He told me exactly how fast I was going, so they can definitely get you while moving. Unfortunately, I was driving the truck, which I don't have a detector in.....

Pretty unanimous. Mr. Valentine must be pretty rich!

Here is a cool article on legality in CA: http://www.insurance.com/quotes/arti...ties/artid/348

BTW my wife got a ticket where the CHP officer was going the other way the highway.

Yup. Radar works fine when patrol unit is moving....they feed calibrated speedo signal to radar unit. Radar unit can also lock onto 'first moving object' or 'fastest moving object'..so even if you have 'cover cars' around you, if you are moving faster they can visually confirm you are the fastest car AND get a reading.

To OP: V1. without a doubt.
