New owner with idle/stalling problem

Hello all,

I am the owner of a new (to me) 2001 TT car I just picked up last weekend. I must say that I have always dreamed of owning a 911 TT and its surreal now that I am finally able to own one. However, I was quickly brought back to reality recently when the car began exhibiting problems at idle. Every once in awhile the car will stall when stopped at an intersection etc. However, the other day on the way to the airport I got the PSM/ABS lights while driving slowly on the freeway. I don't think the car has had its 30k service yet (slightly overdue). I did talk to the dealer who said that when the car was brought in they replaced the spoiler hydraulic pump, a cam position sensor and added a new battery. I noticed the car also has a K&N. So my thoughts are; the car either needs the plugs changed (past 30k service interval), a new MAF due to the K&N or possibly an alternator (read a post about similar issues when the alternator was going out), plus the dealer replacing the battery could indicate a possible charging problem(?). I would sincerely appreciate any help/advice from the knowledable people on this board. Thanks

Try cleaning the maf with CRC Mass Air Cleaner, install a new OE paper filter and reset the ecu.

If that doesnt fix the issue, you most likely need a new sensor.

Thanks for the reply, I actually just ordered new plugs, coil packs, MAF sensor, stock air filter and oil filter. Its probably overkill but I want to bring this car back to tip-top shape so what the heck, parts were only ~700, a small price for reliability. I appreciate the feedback and hope it is just the MAF sensor since that is an easy change!

I have the same car with the same mileage and the same issue. But looking in the engine compartment I noticed that while the car is idling that a hose is being sucked shut! Turn the car off and the hose returns to normal car idles and revs perfect for the first few seconds until the hose sucks shut and wham same issue again. Its located coming off a T connection on the back firewall and goes into the intake. Shine a flashlight to the back on the passengerside and you can see it. In the diagram its #26. And it goes into the intake (second diagram #13). I hope anyone else who has this issue has figured out why because its happening to me right now.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it when I return home on Thursday and let you know what I find. It is hard to tell from the picture, but any idea what that hose goes to/is used for? Doesn't seem like there should be enough vacuum in any of the lines to totally pinch them shut unless the line is just totally shot? I guess one more thing to check!

I'd scan the ECU to see if any code before you replace a bunch of parts. Your plugs shouldn't cause your stall if you are just at 30k mi now (eventhough they are probly due for a change).

Check renntech.org too to see if anything comes up
