I almost got the complete moron award tonight

My lazy **** always turns the gas pump on auto in the slow notch while I run into the store. It also always spills over a little before it shuts off. Well tonight I come out and gas is squirting and spewing everywhere and forming a huge lake underneath my car. The auto turn off did not work and it kept on pumping.

Luckily the gas was running forward away from the engine/turbos and my disc brakes were not heated up as I had just got into the car or I would be watching my turbo burn to the ground right now.

I screwed the cap on quickly and threw the car into reverse to get out of there before gas made it back to the turbos as they had to be hot (about 120 or so on the way there). When I was pulling out a car load of kids in a suburban stopped and were all starring out the window at my car. At that point, I was mildly panicked thinking the front end was on fire, but I guess they just liked my car.

That's why those things are illegal in NY. Besides the fire risk, not so good for the environment when left unattended and they overflow, ect...

I know its stupid and etc. I won't do it again, that's for sure.

I am curious what insurance would have done. Seems like they would have a general stupidty clause to deny such a claim.

If that were the case, very few claims would get paid. The vast majority claims (car accidents) occur due to at least one person's stupidity.

ElusiveC4 is infamous around these parts
funny.. when i worked at a full service gas station through high school i never had any problems with the auto shutoff feature... best bet is to always put it on the fastest setting so the pressure buildup kicks it off...
