Just invented a new cold air intake

I think this one should work,I made a hole in the plastic duct from the intercooler and put an S shaped pipe in it so the air flows right in the pipe through a rubber pipe into the air filter.I made an extra hole in the oem filter so the extra forced air can get in.I will test it tomorrow because it's raining today and I will also measure air intake temperature with my Brockway R920

Picture 1 and 2 shows you the rubber pipe and the place I tapped in the intercooler..

Picture 3 shows where the 2 pipes enter my motorcompartment:

Picture 4 shows the extra hole I cut in my oem filter:

Tomorrow if it's not raining I'll test my car and will report to you...

I really like it...not sure the best way to test it though.

What fittings did you use at the end to hold the tubing ends (sources of ends and tubing would be great)....I might just have to copy you.

Keep this updated a lot....but nice job sir!

Spot on Dixie, I thought about the same thing a while back but thought the ducting would have to be pretty small to fit in behind bumper. Looks a good job and can't wait to see result.

Very resourseful,
let us know how it goes.
Have you done any benchmark testing before? (ie 60-100, or 60-130mph ect)?

Dixie,

That's a good idea and your right, the Brockway will tell you if there is a temp difference simply by measuring IAT as is and then blocking the hole for a comparison.

I'll be interested to see if the backpressure created by the little hoses "discourage" alot of air entering it. Thats why the dual snorkel works so well....alot of surface area to reduce backpressure.....plus the run is short.

could you actually dyno test such a concept? I guess i'm thinking that you would really need to be driving at speed for the effect to work? perhaps i'm missing something.

Boris,

He can set his Brockway to read IAT (intake air temp) and make a few passes with it connected, then blocked, then connected, then blocked and see if the IAT is cooler each time he unblocks it. That would tell if it was actually doing anything or not...
