Base Nissan GT-R = 7:29
Just give credit where it is due. NISSAN. They just test better than anyone else. If you've kept up with Porsche resting procedrures you know that Walter tests with all the other manufacturers on the track. Chevy did a standing start and Jan only had a few laps to set a fast time (GM being cheap again).
But we've seen the videos at this point, and even with very appearant sloppy driving in Porsche and Corvettes, and Lambos, the GT-R is still within beat down reach with proper driving. So the cat is out of the bag now, we know the car isnt on the same level as a CGT or GT2, and isnt any better than the 997 TT or Z06. Nissan is just hell bent like no one ever before on having the fastest lap times at the ring.
You dont even have to be there to tell that Nissan have put in more time and effort than anyone else. Well if Porsche want to respond, they'll just have to give Walter an open track and put their best foot forward, because up until now they've just been content doing what they always have been and it's kept them ahead. While most manufacturers never put a real foot forward in testing. Well that has all changed now and dramatically, Nissan came to play, and if Porsche want braggnig rights back, they are going to have to step up the test game. The cars have it, now it's just time to put them to work. And walter may be getting too old to be risking his life trying to keep up with these younger drivers. Time to get the young hotshoes some laps over there.
So if you believe the GT-R is relatively that fast, please bring your GT-R and some money to the track, I'll be glad to releive you of it. And when we're done you can send you're GT-R to get the gearbox fixed and add that to your bill.

whats so incredible. With no mods to the engine you can pull 550 hp out of these cars(ECU, exhaust, intake) With quality tires and a good driver, I can see it. Hell the guy that drove the car was world rally champion.. .in...1982!!!, so he's just a little old.
But on that same pavement it's a pretty good time, but should be closer to 7:00 with a sequential, slicks, gutted with major downforce. Realistically that EDO car should be on par with ALMS GT2 cars which will beat a CGT by almost that much on a 2 mile circuit, 13 miles and the gap should be crazy all things considered (sequential, slicks, downforce etc.)
If memory serves 7:15 is faster than a stock Carrera GT and pretty much all other non-modded production cars. I think that merits some kudos ..
Agreed, that it's easy to get 550 hp out of these cars, but my use of "incredible" was more to the 7:15 time.
Incidently, what exactly is the Edo Porsche 996GT2 RS?

If you take away the additional speed cars are getting from the new improvements to the track, I think it's significant, but I think a CGT on full slicks could match that time, and if you put aero on it, it's game over for sure. So considering it's mods I think what's impressive is that people are getting so close on street tires. Says a lot for the evolution of tires and automobiles(minus the track improvements)
The 550 hp in the EDO car is a little different than the 550hp from an exhaust and flash. RS Tuning did the motor, and it has LOTS of suspension goodies, and I don't mean JIC coilovers or PSS-9/10's....
The real benchmark for 996 performance, however, is the Jurgen Alzen car. With full DP bodywork and a built motor by RS Tuning pumping "only" 700bhp.
