Sad day for me....
Good morning ard . No I bough it from a private seller. I went to Florida on March 27 for a test drive and a good inspection. On April 12 we agree on the price. The seller went to the DMV office on April 14 and was amazed to found out about the tax. That is why I decided to get it shipped. But I called the DMV office in Plattsburg NY closed to Montreal and you can get e temp tag without having to pay any taxes....Different states different laws I guess...
Good that you saw it in person, etc.
Seems that FLA will give you a temp license, but will collect sales tax "for your home state".
SInce your home state is outside the US, this would require a discussion with someone senior at their DMV. If the Florida law is mute on what to collect if the car is sold to Canada, then they can't just 'make up' an amount based on tax a FL resident might pay.
Other option might be to drive to the next state up!
Anyway, all too late- I used DeMoise Trking ... own trucks, own drivers, great communications.... if you need to switch. Call them and Bill Demoise will be calling you back

I use Vic at www.norwalktow.com. He ships all the cars for CEC (Techart) and Giovanni. Great guy. call him for any help you need.
So being inquisitive I contacted Florida DMV.
Unlike most civilized states, the Bas****s in FLA charge SALES tax, and not USE tax. So if the car is delivered to you in the state you pay tax. (The dealer and OP are correct.)
You do not have to register it however, and you get a free 30 day temp tag. Big whoop.
The DMV rep did allow that you could do all the paperwork, then actually have the car driven for you by the seller or their representative across state lines. If you took possession in say GA, you'd eliminate the FLA tax.
For the tax savings, you could get a 'no tag ticket' in each state up the eastern seaboard and still come out way ahead.
Get it yet?

Thanks for your research Ard. And you are right I was told lately that I possibly can get something like a temp. tag in Georgia. But finally I decided to look for another transport company and last wednesday it was pick-up. Honesty first auto transport...They were amazing, friendly and efficient...Of course it now cost me an extra $400.00 but I was not able to wait any longer...I should get it on Tuesday or Wednesday...What a relief...
I forgot to tell you I did call DeMoise but they could not delivered further than Albany NY which was 183 miles away from destination...Thanks anyway for your help, J.P.
