Sad day for me....

I finally bought a 996 tt on April 17 in Florida. I saw this beauty on the net. Seal gray, unmodified, and reasonable price. I decided to get it ship to Champlain N.Y. (near the border, I am canadian) and decided with the seller April 28 was the perfect shipping date. Today it is the third of may and the car is still in Florida . I choose "http://autotransportdirect.com". They had 5 stars on "TransportReviews" and they were consider the best to deal with....It is raining in Montreal today and the only thing I can do is to look at the pictures of a car that is suppose to be mine and cry on my wife shoulder ......Why did I choose this shipping company....Thanks for your sympathy...J.P.

You should have done what a the buyer of my VWR32 did... he flew to Orlando and drove that baby all the way back home to Canada.

wachuko I don't know how he did that. To get e registration from the Florida DMV they ask me to pay the Florida tax of 7% from the car value...Did he pay or he found an alternative...

He paid the tax. He had to register the car here in FL but I thought it was only because the R32 was never sold in Canada.

In my case I choose to ship for $875.00 instead of driving it and pay $3700.00 in Florida taxes...You know just to bring the car in Canada we have already 3 taxes first 6.1% because the car was made outside North America, second GST of 5% and at the registration for license plate another 7.5 % provincial tax....Thanks anyway for your info. J.P.

875 vs the taxes... smart choice. Like I said, I think that in the case of the VWR32 he had no other choice.

Most states you only pay tax if you register it as a resident.

Buy it, get a temp tag, drive it. I did that in Wisconsin, done in CA all the time.

Did you get this info from the dealer??? If so you should have called the Florida FHSMV... (call, not email, not look at the website)

Did you buy this sight unseen? From Florida? Yikes

Good luck

A

Good morning ard . No I bough it from a private seller. I went to Florida on March 27 for a test drive and a good inspection. On April 12 we agree on the price. The seller went to the DMV office on April 14 and was amazed to found out about the tax. That is why I decided to get it shipped. But I called the DMV office in Plattsburg NY closed to Montreal and you can get e temp tag without having to pay any taxes....Different states different laws I guess...

Ha! I've used them and I had the same problem and I know why... they don't have trucks or drivers - they advertise the shipment and wait for someone to agree to take it. They say usually within a week.. after over a week, I called them and up'd the price by $100 and someone picked it up the next day. I'm sure you could do the same.

And yes, I agree they don't advertise this, they make it sound like they're a real shipping company when they're more like priceline for car shipping.

Good morning liquidcool. The only thing I can say . I am learning the hard way...I spend hours reading reviews on TransportReviews.com and you are totally right they are looking for a driver and a way to get a full load towards the same destination....I am waiting for the call...

Well it could be worse - I was shipping my car to the buyer per our agreement, so they extra money was out of my pocket to send the car to someone else.

I don't know about a full load.. in the end it was one guy with a trailer. a big trailer, but just my car none the less. If it makes you feel better, the car got their just fine the next day.
