Spanked a BMW 335i... even with a bad clutch
One thing you guys have to understand about the 335i crowd. They have been sold a bill of goods on that sedan. Because of my M Coupe I visit the various Bimmer sites and there are numerous threads touting the speed of the 335i. I'll admit that for a 3 series, its pretty fast, but the 335i guys keep claiming they can outrun an Z4M as well as the new M3. The debate goes on and on. At the last Cars & Coffee I attended there was a guy who put an ///M badge on his 335!!! That's the mentality.
It's just interesting to see that the 335i'ers are still out there thinking they should slap a number on the door and enter their family car in ALMS.

For what it's worth, got a great red-light/green light story. Sitting there one day minding my own business and a Bentley GT Speed pulls up. The driver's 'Boca Buddies' (if you live in South FLA you will appreciate), take a glance over and give me a chuckle. Mind you, i'm in no taxi cab - 02 TT (upgraded turbos, tubi, champions, eibachs - appr 650hp). Not only did i spank him, I was so far ahead, I stopped at the next light even though it was green. Rolled the window down, and offered my most sarcastic "Nice car....didn't know they made the GT Speed in a 6 cylinder. I launched it and the guy just rolled off the light wanting no part of it. It was moments like that I just love this car
One thing to understand about the 996 crowd.... They are all feeling awfully insecure that they can now be challenged by a four door which costs half as much as their car did new.
I think it's
you think one could be "sold a bill of goods" on a car as if someone would buy a 335 blindly without driving it or knowing the actual performance figures. Do you think the factory numbers are flat out wrong? Do you think the magazine figures are flat out wrong (and they are lower than the factory #'s FYI). They all show that a stock 335 will challenge an unmodded 996 and results at the tracks prove it. A chipped (Fabspeed, Vishnu, etc) 335 will crush, and I mean crush, a stock 996. Mid 12 sec 1/4 mile and very low 4 sec 0-60. What does a stock 996 run? Oh, I thought so... Now compare to a 996TT, and guess what - the numbers aren't far off are they.
It's just funny to see 996 owners showing their insecurities (and SP syndrome) by sticking their head in the sand and denying that THEIR cars are not as fast as they think/wish they were.

My DD is a 335 e93 convertible. Great car, fun to drive, looks great top up or down. But there is NO performance comparison to my 996 Turbo.......oh wait, they both have 4 wheels......yep thats it
Anyone who claims otherwise is just nuts.

But now with the k16/16g ...its a different story...i put atleast 8 cars on my friends 400 whp 335i (vishnu tune,iC,exhaust). But they are coming out with a 550whp upgraded turbo 335i...now that will be a good match for a ton of 996 turbos.
Its a great car for a 3 series. Regarding M3's....335i will eat them alive if the M3 is stock. Doesnt matter whatever speed. Infact we raced a 335i modded with a cobb tune GTR...335i lost by only 2 cars.
Also when my 996 turbo was bone stock the 335i pulled atleast 1 car most of the time. Its very very close race.
Also MTheory, The modded 335i will easily pull on e90 M3's ...i have seen it happen numerous times. My best friend has a M3, Gallardo and F 430...the 335i was dead even with Gallardo...pulled badly on the F430 spyder...and M3 no match. With that said...It is no way an M3....all it does is beats it in a straight line ..that;s it. M3 is vastly superior in all other comparisons..one of my fav car of all time has to be e46m3.

Then why did you spend the vast majority of your last post comparing the 335 to the NA 996?

It might be "chipped" and I might get spanked.

Does anyone here really care about 335's and Mcars, Mustangs, and Camaros... Nobody cares. The fact is they get killed every weekend but the Porsche boys know it's not worth bragging about. I'd rather read about Jitsu and the TX fellas on their outings and about our Mexico runs in SoCal. Just my .02
Being the owner of 4 BMW's right now, and having owned 7 previous BMW's, I'm pretty familiar with the BMW world. What I think is that compared to a TT, the 335i is a baby hauling, softly engineered sedan designed to please the "I can afford a pumped up BMW 3 series but I can't afford a real sports car" crowd. My M coupe will outperform the 335i in every category, but against a TT, I'm toast. I know because I've been on the losing side of that battle. And to compare the diaper hauling 335 to the 996, which is a real sports car, is nuts. Put both on the track and we'll see what happens.
