Spanked a BMW 335i... even with a bad clutch
I had a 335i modded one, I can speak from personal experience...My flashed 996 turbo pulled on my friends 335i by only 2 car lengths on a roll from 60-120...then after that the 996 pulls away faster.
But now with the k16/16g ...its a different story...i put atleast 8 cars on my friends 400 whp 335i (vishnu tune,iC,exhaust). But they are coming out with a 550whp upgraded turbo 335i...now that will be a good match for a ton of 996 turbos.
Its a great car for a 3 series. Regarding M3's....335i will eat them alive if the M3 is stock. Doesnt matter whatever speed. Infact we raced a 335i modded with a cobb tune GTR...335i lost by only 2 cars.
Also when my 996 turbo was bone stock the 335i pulled atleast 1 car most of the time. Its very very close race.
Also MTheory, The modded 335i will easily pull on e90 M3's ...i have seen it happen numerous times. My best friend has a M3, Gallardo and F 430...the 335i was dead even with Gallardo...pulled badly on the F430 spyder...and M3 no match. With that said...It is no way an M3....all it does is beats it in a straight line ..that;s it. M3 is vastly superior in all other comparisons..one of my fav car of all time has to be e46m3.

those were chipped 335s..
the fully modded ones with full exhaust, intake etc. are different
But the 335 is not a comparison to any real sports car...to fat and too much of a ***** when it gets really fu*ked(heavy breaking/accelerating and driving over uneven pavements on the Ring track)...without upgrading brakes and the suspension it`s completely worthless
Yes,you can mod it,change pretty much everything from the suspension and the brakes over the engine to stripping it down with no rear seats and so on..
but then it has nothing at all in common with a stock 335
the OP talked about the straight line performance..
that`s just BS...anyone can go fast in the straights...
I don`t understand why everyone has to defend his car over another...?
Just respect other brands and be true to yourself..
the 335 coupe/sedan/convertible is NOT a real sports car...and the 996TT is not god and at the top of the food chain
btw, every Bimmer who got his car at a early point of his career will sooner or later upgrade to a P-Car or any other Sports car anyway(or at least add one)...

Does anyone here really care about 335's and Mcars, Mustangs, and Camaros... Nobody cares. The fact is they get killed every weekend but the Porsche boys know it's not worth bragging about. I'd rather read about Jitsu and the TX fellas on their outings and about our Mexico runs in SoCal. Just my .02
I do. I like all cars.
As long as they are modded with good taste and manor. Same way I like a wide variety of women
Nothing wrong with that. Honestly I like a little stir in the mix better than the idea of a local Rotaty Club where all the old geezers pat each other on the back, and congratulate themselves on seniority promotions during their quarterly award meetings.

That's exactly what i did. I am happy with my 996 turbo. There are certain areas the 335i excels...but a 996 turbo is more complete sports car to me. I still miss the e46 M3...definitely more lively and engaging than the 996 turbo....just not fast enough.

I love my 996tt... BUT I will tell you I do miss my Gallardo... the Lambo is just more exotic.. and it feels exotic compared to the 996tt in every way.. Im thinking of swapping out my K16 turbos for some custom setup.. but also thinking of maybe going back to an exotic instead.. I think every owner feels their car is special... if a 335 can beat my car.. more power to him.
SeattleTT,
You're the only one who compared the 335 to a NA996, that's why I responded that this was the turbo board. The OP was discussing a 335 he had an encounter with. Nothing was mentioned about a NA996 until you brought it up. Now, someone brings up a GT2 and you chastise him for it. You can't have it both ways.

Well this is a Porsche TT board. Again, you came on and compared the 335 to the NA996. That was completely off topic.
BTW, probably like most people on this board, I had a BMW. My 95 M3 was a fantastic handling car and I plan on getting another M car at some point. Way back in '87 I drove my Gf's 325e and couldn't believe how sweet it was. So I'm also a BMW fan.
Don't leave the thread, just try to understand where other people are coming from.

It's funny how everyone doesn't want to compare cars. I mean if you have two cars that are the same or comparable than obviously there is nothing to compare and the results will be following each other closely.
Isn't comparing about finding differences? Which ultimatelly make up the essence of what makes each car special.
Some like an obvious sports car which "looks fast" even when its parked, while others will modify their K-car in search of the ultimate sleeper.
This is a Porsche board and everyone over here is gonna be a bit biased towards their precious baby, but there is definatelly more fish in the sea which are fast and that can be made fast.

Wow - comparing a GT2 to a 335...not sure I saw anywhere in the thread where it was suggested a 335 (modded or not) would challenge you. To compare to an M coupe? Who did that? Comparisons were modded 335 to stock 996 and stock 996TT. The thread took on a life of it's own, mostly cause of posts like yours.
Different cars for different folks. Four doors for certain things, two doors for others. It doesn't mean one can't challenge the other, even if in different classes of cars. It's just funny how insecure alot of people are when they spend $100k+ on a car and then realize that something new comes along that gives it a run. Why can't it be appreciated that the advances in engineering and technology make the new cars exciting?
And even if you had a point anywhere else in your post, which you don't, to call the 335 a softly engineered sedan is just plain stupidity. I hate to break it to you, but there are other well engineered cars besides P-cars.....you should actually try driving one sometime.

To respond directly to your post, If you read what I posted, you can see that I have owned and driven very well engineered cars. In fact, my GT2 is my first Porsche (I believe in starting at the top). My daily driver is a 750Li, which, next to a nuclear submarine, is probably one of mankind's greatest feats of engineering. My M Coupe is mainly a track monster, and ON THE TRACK, it can hold its own against most of the mainly stock street cars I've gone up against since I bought the car in 06. I also own a Z4 and a 325i. All great cars. I'd be the last guy to bad mouth BMW's, since I think they are the best overall line of cars (From 1 series to 7) you can buy. In my opinion, even better than Porsche

As for bringing up my GT2, It was done "tongue in cheek" in response to a previous post (not yours), which attested that a chipped 335i could stay up with a Gallardo, beat an F430, and destroy an M3. In my opinion, my GT2 is in the same "super car" category as the Italian cars mentioned, so I don't think it was that far out of line to bring up the GT2. Especially to bring it up the way I did, which was to sarcastically mention the fact that, based upon all the 335 love I was reading, I made a big mistake when I broke the bank and bought my little Porsche GT2, when I should have just bought a 335i and a chip and apparently been king of the road with or without the diapers and baby seats.
And when I say the 335 is soft, I know from personal experience. 3 weeks ago during BMW driving school at PIR, a 335 got two laps in before the brakes started wailing like a garbage truck. Halfway through the session, the car pulled off and I found out the brake fade was so bad the instructor ended the session early. When I saw the car on the track, the body roll was cadillac-like. Does this mean the 335 is a POS? No, it's a fantastic small sedan for regular driving, and it can also spank most other cars on the road. But it's "soft" compared to, for example, a stock 911, or a stock M3. I have no doubt that a properly set up 335i with or without some ECU adjustments would be a pretty formidable track car.
So there's no need to get all riled up and drop the thread. This is normal stuff around here. I'm just suggesting that, if you follow one simple rule, you will enjoy 6 speed a lot more. When you respond to someone on the forum or post your opinion, write it in the same way that you would speak to someone face to face at, for example, a Porsche gathering. That's what I do and it works.
I can see from your user CP that (like me) you recently joined 6 speed. I can also see from your response to my posts that you disagree with me and say so in a less than friendly manner. There's no need to get personal on this forum. Each of us have opinions, and some of us may know what we're talking about and others may not. The important thing is that if you plan to visit this forum regularly, it's best not to approach others in ways that may be taken personally. There's no need to use terms like "stupidity". It's OK to disagree, because that's a big part of this thing, just make your point and move on. Remember, it's just a public forum. Most guys who really know what they are talking about (Techs, tuners, mechanics etc.), are really amused at all the crap that gets thrown around on these forums and avoid them altogether.
