Planning on buying an 01 996TT

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'm looking at picking up a 2001 996TT this weekend. I was wondering what are the common things I should be looking of in terms of issues that a TT would have (tranny, turbo/wastegate, electronics, etc.)?

Any and all help would be appreciated. Also is there a specific section I should be looking in for the answers to these questions?

Send the car to get a PPI, and then post pics.....keep your wallet open, its WAY too easy to make good power with these cars.

It was recommended to me by several places to move toward a 2003 as some of the earlier 996TT had some 'issues'. Getting a through PPI should help if they look for the problems that are common in that year.

I have an 01 TT. The one thing to look for is the 2nd gear pop out issue... other then that
get it inspected and if it has high miles I would do a leak down/compression test. It is costly but may be worth it.
If you find one take it to Loeber motors and ask for Rich the head foreman to inspect it... he knows what to look for other then the basic stuff.

I have an 01. Only "issues" have been self induced. The car is a rock.

No "issues" with my 2001... Most of them have been in circulation long enough that any issues were resolved by previous ownership.

My 2001 has been the best street car I've ever owned...

I agree, even if there are no problems (and and maybe because there are no problems)... you'll likely spend far more on upgrades and mods than on repairs. I've dropped $10k on my car (01 TT) in the first 6 months of ownership to get the car looking/handling the way I want and the more comfortable I become with the power, the more I want.

I wouldn't shy away from an '01 car. My '01 TT has almost 39k. It ran great stock and runs even better with the EVO GT610 kit. I also just got done adding PSS10's and a GT3 rear sway bar. For the difference in price between a good '01 and an '03 you can get all that done. And don't try to kid yourself that you'll leave the car stock. That what I thought (and sold my wife on) about $15,000 ago. Just get a good PPI and then enjoy the fact that (especially with an '01 car) you are getting an amazing bargain for one hell of a car!

+1 for the '01 TT, great car, but do get it inspected by a pro first.

I now have 37k on my 01, best car I have ever owned.
One note, some very early 01's came through with solid spoke wheels. A good rule of thumb is if the car has black bumpers in the front (ugly) then there's an excellent chance it came through before the hollow spokes were approved.
The upside of the 996TT is that you can really wake them up and still have great daily driver. Spend some time on this Forum, there's a wealth of information.
Good luck!

Get an X50 car. It's well worth the little extra of any.

He Ari- don't think they offered an X50 package in '01. But I do know of one available with an SG650 package
