Do clear bras really work?

I have a dark color. I suggest you just protect the front bumper. You will not see the seams. Thats what I did, and I am very happy with it.

I thought the track would be cleaner because of the smoother surface, and there's no gravel-hauling trucks to shower you.

Is the track dirt mainly coming from cars running off into the shoulders?

You have two:

1. The sand blast effect from the cars in front of you. You will see little white chip marks all over your bumper and even the mirrors.

2. Melted tire pieces thrown by the car in front of you.

It's not the big rocks but the little ones.

If you follow the car in front closely to try to obtain a passing signal, you will likely get hit. It's quite hard not trying to pass people when you have a TT on the track.

Yes they really work. 5300 miles of trolling the rock truck infested interestates of SW Florida and not a single chip (knock on wood).

Clear bra a MUST. Lighter color cars do not show the "seam" which is basically wax build-up and can be cleaned away. For track events I would consider a leather bra on top of the clear as the ideal simply b/c the leather on unprotected surface can trap sand and dirt and scratch the surface. And the leather protects best b/c it is by far the thickest. Lastly, I would get the clear thick self adhesive headlight covers. They come precut for your model and they even have a little circle for the washer hub on the 996. You CANNOT see them at all. They protect much better than any other product while still allowing use of the headlights. It is funny to see guys drive off the track at dark in between track days and they forget there is opaque tape covering their lights. They don't yellow or bubble (NC sun for 2 yrs).

BTW, the comments about Porsche glass--it is very soft. All of our windshields pock up like you can't believe. German glass is very soft for some reason. Not to mention the very high speeds we travel at.

I would go with the 3M clear bra, very high quality. Got it installed after I installed my GT2 kit and 993 Carbon Hood. You can barely see it on the hood and invisible on the front bumper. Worth the price and no headache of always having to respray your bumper and bugs just wipe off, etc.. Much better looking in my opinion than any bra and so on.

I've had the 3M clear bra setup on bumper, hood, and mirrors since my TT was brand new.

I can't tell you the number of times I've seen rock dust on my bra from small rocks hitting the bra and actually leaving dust impact marks... I wipe it away and there isn't any permanent marks in the bra much less the paint.

Here in Arizona, I'd say a clear bra is a must... either that, or get your hood and front bumper repainted on an annual basis.
