Do clear bras really work?

Driving on 101 in the bay area is like going thru an asteroid field sometimes. My windshield is marked with so many chips. Recently, a car infront kicked up a rock the size of a small walnut.
It landed midway on my hood, left a gash, and bounced over the rest of the car. I was going 75 upon impact.

Could a clear bra have protected the surface from that?

How long can a clear bra job last, thru rain and shine?
Can it take 100 degree sun for hours?
Will it bubble?

collin,
people love it & hate it. i have clear bra on 3 of my cars... the new car i get, i don't even think about it the first stop is my bra guy.

after the few LA run with LA 6speeders, my windshield looks like sh*t & full of tiny chips. however, my bumper still looks brand new. i have the bra on the car over a year now, besides it turns yellow a tiny bit other than that it looks perfect.

the key is the installer. find a good one!

my rule of thumb in deciding between a clear bra and not is this:

walking up to a car i can see the bra edges before i can see rock chips.

so i'd rather have rock chips that i cant see easily, than a long edge of clear bra that's quite easily visible.

just get the bumper repainted every couple of years...

ymmv of course.

It absolutely does work. 3/4 of my last 4 cars have had it, and the only reason it isn't 4/4 is because I haven't had time. I've had no problems with it, and a car like the TT with a relatively simple front end makes it easier for the installer, which in the end causes it to look better. Make sure you get a good, reputable installer or you may end up regretting it.

Can't see it at all...

What parts are not sealed by the bra?
The ones that may need servicing like highlights, tow hook, etc?

Does it cover the hood and fenders all the way to the front doors? Do people wrap the rest of the car too?
It doesn't wrap the front spoiler lip, does it?

How do you wash it, with regular soap and all? Do you have to be careful not to let water get underneath the edge?

If it gets punctured with a bad enough asteroid, does the whole bra needs to be replaced?

Thanks everyone for answering these questions.

Is there typically a guarantee/warranty for the bra or install job?

I have seen afew of these. Depending on the color of your car, the seam will be annoying after a little dust hits the car. Putting that film on a car reminds me of plastic runners over a carpet in your grandmothers house. Just repaint after the small chips bug you would be my call. Just something to consider.

Clear Bra, without a doubt. Did on both of my cars and will do so on any new car I get. But remember it's all in the install. Make sur you get someone good to do it.

1. You can buy it in variable amounts of protection. You can do things like just the front bumper, or you can do it all and get the hood, mirrors, and other areas. I would call your installer to see what he can offer you.

2. My installer has said to just treat it the same as paint. Nothing will really get under it, except on the very edge. You can even wax it.

3. Because the kit goes on in separate pieces, only the piece that gets punctured needs replacing.

4. My installer has said that if a piece gets punctured, or I'm not happy with the work he will come out and fix it free of charge.

If you track your car, it's a must. Without it, you will hate yourself after one or two weekends.

Other methods of protecting the paint on the track just takes too much time and some do not offer protection when you are on the street.

I have it on my sideskirts and aero lip....
Note: Even woth the fil a pesky stone or two will find their way to unprotected parts - stonechips are not 100% avoidable unless you keep the car in the garage LOL
The film IMO is a must!
