Apparently "even Steven" with a 2001 996TT with low miles. In 5 years it will be worth a lot less than the 996TT.

microboby can only hope to improve
A dealer might want to get $75 to $79 for a low miles 2007 CLS63 , If you get a good deal you can find it between $55 to $59 with mid miles , pretty much on the range of a 2001 or 2002 TT

Well if the rule that a vehicle loses 50% of its value in the first 5 years holds true...

2007 CLS63 MSRP: ~$95,000
2012 Value: $47,500
Current KBB Trade in Value of 2001 996TT with 18,000 miles: ~$55,000

I think that my 996TT will probably be worth less than $47,500 in 2012.

Are my approximations on par?

This is the residual value for BMW's popular 3 series per LeaseCompare. I think a 50% residual in 5 years on a AMG is overly optimistic. Whereas I think the early 996TT do not have too much downside from here.

I would not be surprised that if you kept your 996TT and sold it in 2012 you can buy almost 2 CLS63 at that point. AMG cars are not known for holding its value.

But I gotta tell you, it depends on your use. If you are looking for a comfortable cruiser the AMG is a good choice.

BMW Financial Services Lease Programs – June 2008

Special bank lease programs for these models are available through independent leasing source LeaseCompare.com. Click on the vehicle name for more information and to see payments details.

2008 BMW 335i Convertible
24 Month – Residual 65% of MSRP – .00215 Base Rate
36 Month – Residual 54% of MSRP – .00215 Base Rate
48 Month – Residual 42% of MSRP – .00263 Base Rate
60 Month – Residual 33% of MSRP – .00263 Base Rate

Residuals posted are for 15K miles/year. Add 2% to Residual for 12k mi/yr and 3% for 10k mi/yr on all terms

^^^^

OK...I guess the 50% over 5 years rule isn't necessarily true. Thanks...another reason to keep the 996TT.

I posted the same question over at Bimmerpost.com where I am also a member for an "unbiased" opinion and got a resounding "Keep the 996TT." As you said..."the pcar is a keeper."

Thanks again!

Keep the TT. Upgrade the stereo to one with nav/bluetooth (I did with Avic D3...others are out there for more cost now....and then). Mod a bit, do DE's, etc. The 996TT offers a lot.

I briefly read the AMG forum about 6 months ago and those things fall in value like rocks. They are also, seemingly, very very prone to problems and cost a lot to fix. Not that a 996TT doesn't, but you have a bit deeper internet help depth on the 996TT front probably (slave and accumulator for me, but in posts I got "do this because it is that and don't waste your time on x, y, z).....

Depends on if you have a good indy, etc.

Rent a corvette for a week and then go back to the porsche....or something else. Lots of guys want change. The problem with a TT is that not much is better...

:-)
