I daily drive mine in Hoboken. The roads are miserable. It's fine. This car is the all around athlete. Buy one and never look back.

Thread comes up a lot. Same answer always: car is a solid performer day to day. It does it all. Rain, snow, heat, mountains, DE, track, soccer game (I had two 4point boosters in back...), drive on the interstate for hours, and just going around the mountain.

And, mechanical support is ample and available. Hourly rates are what they are. Tire life is ok in front and not a toyota in the back and the new Sumi at tirerack for a DD is a bargain summer tire.

Good luck.

I went from a 2005 S4 to a 2003 TT for my DD. The S4 was a fantastic DD and I could park it anywhere without worry. The S4 has a large trunk, coupled with seats that fold down, so it's even great for Costco runs.

The TT is a lot more fun, but I find myself being a lot pickier when parking. Of course, trunk space is quite limited and I have to let the car idle for a few minutes after driving every time to cool down the turbos. However, I'll absorb those minor inconveniences in exchange for the awesome ride of the TT. The TT has as much power and handling that you would need in a DD.

Do TTs really need to be cooled down before being turned off if doing spirited driving? If so, why not get a turbo timer?

What is the cost of maintenance like on the 996TTs? How much for an oil change? How much for fluid changes? Service check-up costs? Etc?

For a nimble, quick, luxury DD I dont think you could pick a better DD. If you are talking the likes of RS4 and M5's you arent getting all that great gas mileage to begin with.

No, you do not need to cool them down, turbo timers etc.

There really isnt a lot of maintenance to do unless you mod. The dealer will get you for plugs, oil changes, pads, rotors. Other than that there is really nothing to do, and those are contingent on how many miles a year you add to the car.

I'll echo what's already been said...

I drive mine to work every day -- 64 miles. I drive the **** out of it and I haven't had any problems other than needing routine maintenance (including plugs). Yeah, tires, oil changes and plugs will be more than you're probably used to in an Audi or BMW, but it's worth it. I sit in traffic fairly often and it's totally fine (if you can handle all the staring). AWD is great in the rain! Bose is surprisingly better than anything I've ever heard in a BMW. I didn't think I cared, but it's nice to have a rich sounding system while sitting in traffic.

If you get the TT, you'll find that your driving becomes far more aggressive than it was in the Audi or BMW. The TT delivers a lot more.
