Ipod conversion on 01 996 Turbo?

OK so i've searched, and can't seem to figure out if i'll be able to add an ipod ICELINK or something to my 01 996 Turbo. Mine has the factory navigation. Is there an ipod adapter available for it? Is it controllable from the factory deck?

any other way to have a music harddrive system controllable from the factory deck?

Thanks.

I did a gateway 500 but it was on a 03 MOST optic loop nav unit. Check out Bumper Plugs. They would know if it would work on a 01

I've got an 01 with the Nav. I hooked up my Ipod by disconnecting the factory CD changer and hooking up the ipod to the cd input. Now, when you push the cd button in the cabin, the ipod come on....works just fine!

What did you use to hook up the iPod to the cd changer port?

I've heard good things about the Dension Ice Link

http://www.dension.com/icelinkone.php

All you need is the head unit removal tool (like $1 on ebay) and it's a total plug and play. 5 minutes to install. Make sure you get the pre-03 kit (those are fiber optic). I hear it just runs on the "aux" setting on stock head unit. http://search.ebay.com/search/search...tool&category0=

I know bumber plugs carried them for a while?

I want one too if you locate what unit it is.

This is what i found,

http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=993

just need to tap into the ground/power from the radio harness and it's plug and play. It does not control the ipod but does charge it. I was unable to find any fully intergrated ipod solution for the 01 996....

just remember after the install you have to enable the aux function thru the radio. http://www.beckerautosound.com/pdf_g...directions.pdf

I used a 6 foot length of speaker wire with RCA connectors on both ends. One end plugs into the cable that is disconnected from the cd changer in the trunk. The other end is plugged into an RCA-1/8 inch adapter that plugs into the ipod. All equipment available from Radio Shack.

To use the ipod, just push the cd button on the head unit. To switch songs on the ipod however, you still need to use the ipod controls.

hope this helps

I ended up doing the same, I have an '01 with Factory Nav. Not the best way, but it works.

I ordered the becker Aux in cables and then bought a little switch box to plug the cd changer and Aux into. The switch box is in the glove box now I can switch between the two.

i have on of the denison units that integrates into factory becker (non-nav) unit. It replaced the CD changer and you utilize playlists 1-6 and it directly controls and drives the ipod. pretty cool. i am willing to part with it as i changed my setup. i'll sell it for $110 + shipping (that's what i paid for it)
