Noob with PPI question

New to this forum and to Porsche, but I've already got the TT fever (don't even own the car yet). I'm coming from the muscle car world. I've narrowed my search to 2002+ 996 TT, once I find the one, I will want to get a PPI. I have a few questions regarding PPI:
  • Where should I get the PPI done at, the local Porsche dealership or the local Porsche mechanic?
  • Are PPI's standard or do I need to specify what I want inspected?
  • Anything else I should know regarding PPI?
Thanks for you're help.

Good questions.

It is hard to say WHERE... whoever will do the most thoroguh job and has the most experience. Many dealers look at it as a quick way to pick up $250... all they want to do is make sure there is nothing obvious that can come back to bite them.

Whomever you choose, make sure you specify a written report. I recommned the porsche CPO checklist as a start. Add in a DME dump for any over-rev data. Make sure they check clutch (to the extent possible- at maximum driving after warm up) and 2nd gear issues. Listen for power steering fluid pressure relief valve.
