Installing Aluminum Gauge Faces Price/DIY?

Folks:
I just purchased new aluminum gauge faces to replace my black factory faces. Any "pearls of wisdom" here, can I do it myself or should I enlist the help of my local Dallas Odometer shop to get this done?
Also, what should I expect to pay for this, ' cause I know that when i drive up in my shiny Turbo, they will see $$$$ signs and search for the lubricant...?

They all look cheesey imo. I had them on my c4s, biggest mistake ever, really looked crappy, plus they attach with superglue which can ruin the gauge faces.

I have the opposite opinion - I've swapped them on my last two P-Cars and love the look and I've never had to use super-glue.

It's not hard, but it is tedious.

I would drape towels over your steering column before you remove the cluster to keep from scratching parts.

You should also take pictures of where your needles sit in the gauges with the key in the on position.

After replacing the faces, plug the cluster back in and turn the key on - then install the needles such that the positions correspond with the pictures you've taken.

Let me know if you need any more help.

Where did you get the replacement gauges? Are they similar/identical to the factory aluminum gauges?

I replaced my gauge faces about a month ago and the look is great! Aluminum is the way to go! Def. drap towels/beach towels on the dash to prevent scratches or dents. I removed the cluster in less than 1 hour. Basically there is only 2 main screws that hold the cluster in. You will have to detach the hazzard button, easy. From this point it's only a matter of removing the screws in the back of the cluster. Your guage faces should have come with a tool to remove the needles. Remember to replace the needles where they were original. My guage faces had adhesive backing. I had to remove the OEM faces before installing the Aluminum faces. Good luck with your install. Total time spent was about 1-hour removal of cluster, 1-hour of face change out, and 30 minutes to put back cluster. GL...

Thanks.

I disagree, I think they look great - much better than black stock. If I had white gauges I wouldn't have changed them, but the silver/aluminum gauges on an arctic silver car is nice combination.

Photo attached - but it's not easy getting a good photo between the plastic covers and the shiny faces. My indy tech charged me 2 hours labor to install them.

You are talking about the rings not the gauge faces which is what the OP was asking about. BTW, I also like the gauge rings and did not use superglue...been there for 4 years if installed properly

Here you go:
http://www.automotion.com/productpag...126&pid=110009

Get ready for sticker shock: $399 for the set. For something that weighs only a few grams each, I estimate they cost more than their weight in gold. They are nicely made though.

Damn that's expensive. Does the lighting through the gauge faces look exactly the same as the stock black gauges? It looks like on their website that it's blotchy.

Here is another option from Suncoast.. http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/me..._Code=996TTINT

They look like OEM quality, but I haven't tried them, so I can't personally say...

$249 is better than $399, though.

Yes they look exactly stock in the dark. the light shines through fine, although the "turbo" logo does not - but that's just because there's no light behind it.

$249 is better, but the ones I linked to are actual aluminum, not just colored. Not sure if that makes a difference.
