Are Diverter valves needed for an ECU tune?

You can run the car with stock DV's. It is preventative maintenance to change them to aftermarket ones. You will not gain any HP by putting DV's in, unless your stock ones are shot.

Several companies make DV's for our cars, and most have proven reliable. I chose EVOMS DV's and haven't had any problems with them. I know they are doing their job though, because they give off a "honk" when shifting gears and releasing boost.

Which pshhhhh sound would that be?

Beware of m3's that go phsshhhhhh?
996 Turbo go psssshhhhhh?
Psssssshhhhhh between shifts?
or A constant psssshhhhhh?

To get the pssssshhhhh between shifts you need a external wastegates.
The get the constant pshhhhhh ditch the cats and/or go with straight pipes.

I don't know if it is my wastegate (internal) or the turbo... my car makes weeeoooohhh, weeeooohhh sounds when spooling.

Either you are stock or you aren't. Do you think that 'just a SW flash' will be OK with Porsche if your engine grenades for an unrelated reason?? Just don't kid yourself-

Regarding sounds:
1. Working diverter valves (whether stock or aftermarket) should be SILENT.
2. External wastegates should sound like a catless straight pipe exhaust but only when peak boost is reached (only when on throttle)
3. Blow-off valves (i) shouldn't be used on this car because it complicates the ECU's ability to regulate air/fuel mixture because it vents air that's already been metered; and (ii) make a Pssshh sound when you lift throttle after having been on boost.
4. The less restrictive an exhaust and intake you have, the more likely you will hear the turbos "woosh" on spool up.

We can hook you up with APR software if your interested. Software includes 93 or 91 octane, 100 octane, Valet, Security Lock Out, Stock Program, Fault Code Erase, Throttle Body Alignment, and Anti-Theft. You can access them all through your cruise control switch.

Its not mandatory but suggest to replace the divertervalves and we have the APR R1's in stock as well. If you cant send a PM email or call me its all in my sig.

In regards to point #1, DV's aren't always silent. I have a V-flow, and I can absolutely hear my DV's when shifting near redline and when letting off the throttle after being on boost. When shifting near redline, they make a honk/squeak. When just letting off the throttle after being on boost, they make a small psssssh sound. I believe the V-flow is the reason that I can hear them...if you have the OEM airbox, that may be why you can't hear yours working.

I can't speak about OEM DV's since I replaced them immediately, but I would bet with the V-flow you could hear them as well.

What type of DVs do you have? Sounds like they are leaking. And yes, aftermarket DVs can seize and/or leak. All a DV does is divert the charged air from the TB back into the turbo's impeller blades. The valve opening should be a silent event. The reason BOVs make "pssh" sounds is that they vent that air into the engine compartment rather than into the intake track. If you are getting a psssh, air is probably going where it isn't supposed to.

You should remove them and pressure test them.

Well Boca you can always settle for less and not get the Softronic. Then again you already have another agenda

By the way Softronic has standard flashes and custom tuned flashes. These are sold by many different distributors and some labeled as their own also.
