No5 Misfire

Noticed my idle was a bit lumpy?

Mechanic plugged in the PWIS and there was no error codes. But it showed a misfire on cylinder 5. I changed the coil pack and the plug but it made no difference?

Changed the MAF just in case and it did go but now its back ?

Any ideas

I changed the diverter valves and the boost hoses. The lumpy idle disappeared again. Did a track day the other day and it came back.
Next plan is to change all the plugs and all the coil packs to the 997 version.
I've read somewhere just because a misfire is showing on 5 it doesn't always mean thats the one with the problem

Do a full set of plugs, change cylinder 5 coil and drive the car. If this still doesn't correct the issue and its still isolated to cylinder 5, I would consider replacing the injector.

Tony, does this car have ignition amplifiers/control modules like the older porsches and audis? That might be another possibility.

Nope, the ignitor/amp built into the coil.

I had that same problem. Switched all plugs and all coil packs at 60K mile service. No problems after that.

A While back a garage changed the coil pack and plug on number 5 but this didn't help.

The car drives fine, I took it on track and it didn't miss a beat.

But when I got home it had the occasional miss when on idle. It only does it when warmed up ??????

My next plan is to change all plugs to the Bosch ones and the coil packs to the 997 version. My car is a 2001 and I think they're the originals.

Here is my input....

if you do a seach you will find my traed about bad idle...story short after changing MAF & all the coil pack for the 997 versio & plugs & DV the car runs much much faster and smoth...but the warm up missfire #6 /total + hasmatic/fart idle was there on cool starts.

Today is getting better and better + the car is runing smother and faster , the solution was to drive and drive and drive and drive the car.... did I say drive ...yes drive and from time to time use Liqui Moly Flue Injection Cleaner, there are good options in US, to a seach on 6sp about that topic. In my case my TT was too much in the garage on 2007 and big part of 2008.

I hope its helps!

subscribed...very interesting. I have had a #5 cylinder misfire for months now. Been driving it and no noticable issues. I had someone log it with Durametric a couple months ago, but never did anything about it. I changed all my plugs about 4 months ago and 1 bad coil as it broke up on the dyno.

My misfire reads as a constant count reading it with Durametric software. Feels like its running on 5 cylinders and very rough.

Will be changin the plugs and all coilpacks tonight, will report my findings.

TT, Does it happen at steady, light throttle, but not on acceleration?
