CD changer question or Ipod install

I was wondering if it is possible to swap out the factory cd changer and add a changer with MP3 plyback capability. My car is an 01 equipped with Nav. Also if I retain the factory changer, can I add for instance an Ipod, and use the factory controls. I am new to the forum, and came from an M3 forum. With the M3, you can add an aux. input which taps into the factory stereo wiring harness, and access the aux input through the radio for an Ipod. Does Porsche with PCM allow this? I figure it would be possible to tap into an aux phone connection from the nav screen? Thanks everyone once again.

Use the optional IPod FM transmitter. That's the easiest way.

For an '01 you can purchase an auxillary cable from Becker. The cable connects to the CD input on the back of your NAV unit; you cannot use both the CD changer and auxillary cable since they both require the same port.

Once connected, simply select the "AUX IN" input through your head unit.

This topic has been covered before, search here, Rennlist.com and Renntech.org for additional useful information.

The Aux adapter for the Becker stereo is the cheapest way to get decent sound from your iPod. I tried two different FM modulators and reception was spotty. I hard wired a cigarette lighter socket behind the dash and use the Belkin adapter to power the iPod. The iPod runs on 12v, so you can skip the cigarette lighter and modify the Belkin adapter to tap directly into a hot wire behind the dash. For control, I use the remote that came with the iPod.

Dension has an expensive adapter that plugs into the back of the Becker unit and powers the iPod. I do not think the head unit controls the iPod, however.

The Becker FM mod produce really bad sound. They should stop making/selling it.
