Prospective 996 TT owner

Hello all, I have been a almost daily visitor over the last year and am almost ready to join the 996 family, past vehicles include a corvette ZO6 and then I moved to a E39 M5 which incidently has been my personal favorite thus far and now I guess the natural progression of things I am looking to get a 996TT, just thought I would introduce myself and ask a few quick questions. First does anybody know this car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=250268556474
and second question, what do you guys think would be a good price I was thinking 50k-53k but hey maybe I am being unrealistic and also a place in the westchester NY area to have a PPI performed, I am currently deployed overseas and would not be able to see the car in person, ya I know probably not the smartest move but I have the itch, so thus the concern of having a reptuable shop perform a solid ppi. well thanks in advance, and I look to join the community soon, Josh

mtesh73 is infamous around these parts
mark sells nice vehicles. my brother has dealt with him many years and bought an 02 x50 a few years back. i think that the asking prices tend to be a little high considering the current soft market on these vehicles. i am sure if it is on his lot it is in very good condition.

PPI. PPI. PPI.
PPI. PPI. PPI.

Try to get records and see what the person did. There are some very heavilly modded cars that have had amazing care and some dailly driver/lease cars that were abused, not serviced, dented, leaned on denting panels (....ask me, I saw a lot of them), etc. Too few miles causes trouble too it seems.

Check for 2nd gear issues (see the sticky up on the top of the page here...). I had my car's PPI at the local top of the line Porsche shop to the PCA racers in the major city I shopped in (400 miles from my home) for about 300 dollars BEFORE I even called the guy to talk real dollars. No pass, no go for me on the PPI. I planned on doing 2-4 PPI's to find the car if need be. Small issues are not a big deal....blown diverter. But, a leaking head, grinding noise, etc....um, go elsewhere.

Good luck. Don't know the car. Did not know mine. Talked to the salesman. He had all the service records (smile). He was fine with anywhere I wanted to do the PPI (smile). There are enough of them out there that you can now pick your color just about. I did and I am glad I waited to get what I wanted.

I got the PPI shop to use via the local PCA tech guys.....fyi. Don't use the selling shop.......ever. For what I wanted to learn, I went indy, high end, racing...guys that took the engines apart and the PCA guys all said were "the best..." I had a perfect engine and tranny. The only thing they missed was a dead pixel in the radio display....it died a month later anyway....that is another story and the kind of thing you need to be prepared for with a 6+yo supercar. These are good cars, but they are cars.

Jeff

Thanks guys for all the feedback, when I buy I will definately get a PPI, good advice on the 2nd gear pop out, I know each car can be a little different but generally speaking do you think my idea of 50k-53k is appropriate this car? As far as buying one from a forum member, I check the 4 sale section daily, recently the 01 silver/ blk proto 650 car caught my attention, but I am unsure how much the gentlmen is looking to get and I cant see any pictures of the car at present location due to bandwidth and network restrictions, and he was unable to email them to me so I guess you could say I am looking everywhere and not trying to limit myself, appreciate allthe advice keep it coming..Josh

If you like it you should be ready to pay 5-10% more for it.

You're stuck with it so you better like the colors and etc. and not just the price.

I'm in WA state so if you're not WA-DC then PM me and I can show you around.

Saw one locally yesterday for just $46K with reasonably miles & a Proto-Kit you could probably own for less.

Then again I also saw a Ford Cobra with a 351W and a 5 speed for only $28K with ZERO miles on it. Killer value for the HP.

Need to know what you want before you start, though, or get a better idea at least. Price is not going to be the best answer. You will pay in the end (the same higher price) eventually once your new car is sorted out.

You need to have at least $10K baked into your assumptions once you own these cars because they eat $5K bills like a small (but hungry) angry child @ a Hostess factory.

SY, thanks for your offer , when I get a car I would like to meet some fellow WA 6 speeders, I am north of seattle in Oak harbor. I am basically looking for Silver/ black or black/ black 01-03 and lower miles, mods may or may not add value, I guess it depends on what they are, thnaks guys for the advice...Josh
