And thats why he bought a Ford GT?

There was plenty of anti-'merican snobbery in that video. Everything from "the colonies" to "this car is much like America...sticking its nose in other peoples business." That car must've sucked real hard considering it ran faster lap time then the GT3 they tested, eh? Not to mention this was a BASE Corvette. It was not equipped with the Z51 package which gives it a more aggressive transmission and suspension pieces (I believe this car has tops out at 178mph). All in all, I'd say this base car did some serious ownage.

This is all in fun and is an example of typical "Brit Humour". My favorite line was in the end when he referred to the leaf-spring setup as a "Vietnamese Suspension". Hahaha

The British have an uncanny ability to make the dirty sound clean, and to insult you horribly in such a nice way.

But yah, at the end of the day, for a car that scored so high, one must wonder why they came down on it faster then a dentist decending on Trafalgar Square. I think the answer starts with the letter "u" and rhymes with unobjective

The GT3 was tested on a very wet track... it would kick the C6s **** on a dry track... and also, remember that your C6 got beat by a 290 HP Honda in a straight...

And we all know this review was a conspiracy against the Vette because they are Eurotrash and hate Americans. Goddamn Europeans.

I hate magazine racing...but I think that, as others here have said, to dismiss the Corvette as a pile of underperforming plastic is just silly. I love the banter between the two hosts, but I seriously doubt their objectivity (and their ability to drive, apparently). Again, not to be a magazine racer, but the LS2 equiped C6 has been tested considerably faster then the $100+K 290hp Honduh.

In sum: I do think that the overall tone (althoug somewhat jovial) does support my claim that this show was somewhat slanted. One only need to travel to Canada to see how pervasive anti-Americanism is...would it be such a stretch to see it enter car circles?

Looked to me as though the NSX jumped the start a little and the Corvette spun off the line. With four different drivers, different tire compounds, etc., they should have run them from a slow roll. Weighing within a hundred or two pounds of each other, an NSX with 224 ft/lbs of torque is not going to outrun a Corvette with 400 ft/lbs of torque, not to mention 110 more HP and similarly well spaced gears. With regards to the TVR, they're light and fast but, as far as I know, they have very few amenities, safety systems, etc. - ie. the car as it sits has an unfair advantage over the others. My $.02

Well.. I do have to give the C6 some props for being fast... and for 45 grand its god good bang for the buck and it looks nice too... personally I would rather get a Boxster S, but its still a nice and respectible car...

It lacks refinement and attracts a Harly type crowd, that's why I don't own one. I would consider the Z06 as a track car though as I like the new body look.
Well said, Tim.

Everytime I think Vettes are old school, I look at this picture and read up on John Ligenfelter. This is a true argument for "no replacement for displacement." Check these numbers out. For the money that's a pretty tough car to beat.

These theoretical arguments are funny and I love them. Bench top racing will go on as conditions are hardly ever right unless a someone brings a bunch of cars together at the same time. For even money, which it's not, most people would probably take a Turbo over a vette. If your paying and you can afford it, most of us chose Turbos. If you don't want to pay or can't, the vette is a nice ride for 50K. I'm sure the new Z06 will really perform and I hope they make the "Blue Devil" so all I'll need is a white Ford GT with blue stripes to show my colors.

i am thinking of getting the C6 and still keep my p-car. Never been a fan of the Vette, but the new vette is awesome . the only thing i hate about corvette is SOME of the owners. I got some idiot vette tried to run me off the road, and then give me the finger,, any some foolio trying to race me all the time or tailgating. WTF man .. I will never do that kind of things if i get the vette.

0-60 in 1.97? Not on street tires. That's a 1.5g launch from 2 wheels with a heavy motor out front. Not happening. (Yeah, magazine racing.)

I don't know who's car that is. As a matter of fact, it isn't a Lingenfelter, either. Just a cool pic. I tried to find the websight I took the picture from but could'nt. It's over 1000 hp.

It was designed by Jim Hall of Halltech. I think thats his personal car unless he sold it.
