Is it new battery time?

My car is a 2001 with 17,000 miles, it was sitting for 12 days and the battery is dead, do I need a new battery or just to charge my existing one?
The real problem is my car will be in FL soon at an apartment complex and I will not be able to keep a battery maintainer and will be in NY for sevral days at a time, how long can a Porsche sit without the battery going dead?

I don't know how long they can go without dying, but I've read people saying a week? How about disconnecting it so it doesn't drain while you're away?

Not an option, the building has valet parking, it won't be easy to arrange.

AGM type is the same general principal as an Optima
It is a larger sealed battery, you have to move your hold down to the next hole and insert a nut under the bolt
The AGM has much more cranking power and is able to sit dorment for long periods of time, you will notice the car cranks much faster

Hope this helps you

There is a company (Igbglobal I think) that makes a solar powered trickle charger. You plug it in to the cigarette lighter and put the panel on the dash.

The car electronics pull about 50 ma so that is about a 1 amp drain per day. The porsche battery is about 70 ah so theoretically it would last about 2 months. However in general you should not let the charge drop below about 75%.

Thats your easiest solution since you say you cant use a battery maintainer.

The original battery is covered by waranty (4 year) if you drive the car regularly.

With a new battery, or one that's not on its last legs as yours appears to be, mine has sat for weeks in the garage without any problem. Granted, I don't arm the alarm so that saves on battery power, but most of the alarm electronics disengage after 5 days to save the battery. If you're going to be down in FL every couple of weeks to run the car, you should be ok with a new battery.
