JIC Cross Suspension Noises

I just got my car back from Lucent yesterday after having my boost leak fixed (got new boost hoses as well) and had JIC Cross suspension installed that I had bought from Vivid last week.

The handling is amazing, BUT there is a very irritating clunking pinging noise when I steer the car at low speeds. Tom told me about the noise and said that it's normal with coilovers, but I can't imagine that people are willing to live with this and that I would have heard more complaining about it. I have searched the forum and found a few mentions of suspension noise like this and that it had to do with the suspension mounts, but no really clear answers.

Can anyone shed any light? I'm going to take the car back to Tom at Lucent next week, and I want to have some information when I do so.

Thanks everyone.

Yup, my JIC makes those noises sometimes because of the hardware. My is a 99% track car so I can live with it. Handling is amazing.

if your front end is clunking after you've lowered it , it's probably due to the fact that the JIC drop links are still too long for JIC's recommended ride height....meaning that the drop links keep the sway bar way too close to the lower control arms, so when going over bumps the sway bar hits the lower control arm.......is that the type of clunking you hear? .....The reason I say this is that I had the same problem,.... so some adjustable drop links are in order

hope this helps........many people have posted this here

Actually - there's no noise at all while I'm driving over 5 mph, only when I am making low speed turns for parking, etc.

Is there some fix for this?

The noise is normal. There are two springs on each suspension. Each time you turn at low speed to park, you are turning a lot. Springs rotate a bit and as they come back into position they do this "Cloung" noise.
If you really can't stand this noise, I am sure you can order a single spring for your front suspensions. This is what we do in Switzerland for PSS9 and PSS10 as dual springs suspensions are not street legal.

Boxer4 is probably right. Take a picture of the install so we can see. I had a set on my 996TT for 2 years and no noises. I also have a set on my 997TT and no noises. So probably some other issue. JIC Cross is in your backyard, you could swing it by them to get your exact answer as well.

Great idea on swinging by JIC. I may do that! Do they actually look at and diagnose installed systems?

Let me know your schedule and I will help arrange the appointment with Adam, Stephen, Jon. They are very good friends and take care of my clients. You can get their address on www.cross-na.com.

Thanks!

Had similar problem on my JIC's, is the sound coming from the fronts only? Both sides? I got on the phone with JIC few mths ago, they suggested me to tighten the big bolt under the shock (forgot which size it is), right above where the dampening **** is (for the fronts), this should solve the problem, the suspension should not make any noise. Mine ran perfectly after the fix.

Hope this helps, pm me if you need any info.

Do you have a picture of the bolt you mention?
