recklessly speeding with a TT

After lurking for few months on 6speed and other forums I finally dropped the hammer and traded my 89 930 T cab for 01 996 TT, that was last week.
Before I picked the car up I had SpeedGallery install me some GIAC chip, FabSpeed SuperSport LOUUD and B&M shifter, so far so good.
Biggest problem I encountered with the car so far is the lack of open road within the city (LA) streets and freeways to stretch the legs of the beast.
I have red and acknowledged many forum treads about speeding, getting caught, losing the DL etc.., being a moderate driver that I am, getting caught speeding was never a major concern for me because...I rarely speed.
So today I was cruising down Ventura Bl with a friend demonstrating my new acquisition, telling him how frustrating it's going to be to own this car in LA .
While I'm *****ing about traffic, potholes, cops etc my friend suggested we get on the 101 fwy, Sunday afternoon traffic wasn't that bad so what the hell.
On-ramp, 2nd gear, 40mph, 70mph, 3rd , 90, 110, 120+, 4th, 6th, let off a bit, .....NNNOOOO!!!!...red and blue in my rear view mirror...NNOOOOO!!!, why me ? why now? why? why?
It took 20 seconds to pull over but to me it felt more like a frigin hour, "DO YOU KNOW WHY I STOPPED YOU SIR?", "VERY FUNNY, OFFICER. " was all I could come up with , 100+ mph ticket is no joke and reckless driving violation given by hostile cop can land you in jail, rightfully in my opinion.
so the over/under on this "game" is 100, 100+ and I kiss my DL goodbye for long time, sell the TT so I can afford the insurance on my other vehicles, buy myself a diesel truck when I get back my DL so I won't be tempted to speed again.
Under 100 mph and I walk away with few-hundred-bucks citation, two points or so on my record and biggest dumb smile I ever had on my face.
The chip slowly approaching my window, here it comes, he goes:..."RECKLESS DRIVING", "O-N-E H-U-N-D-R-E-D T-W-E-N-T-Y F-I-V-E M-I-L-E-S P-E-R H-O-U-R","ARREST", "CAR IMPOUND"," TWO YEARS SUSPENSION", " IF I CATCH YOU AGAIN I WILL RIGHT YOU UP AND YOU EAT ALL THAT.. "
- what? did I hear "IF I CATCH YOU AGAIN.." ?
Make a long day and story short, I got away from 120+ speeding ordeal with a verbal (!) warning not to speed again on this stretch of the freeway!!!
The officer made a point that while he was aware of my speed he didn't pace me long enough nor did he register my speed with his radar so in his opinion this ticket will not stand the trail.. works for me.
Not the obvious fact that I got away with murder but his honesty and his respect for my legal rights really changed my opinion about law enforcement personnel and CHP in particular.
My immediate response was " I deserve the ticket because I was speeding" was naive at most, but that how I felt at the time and he still let me go free brushing off my comment while asking me how many hp my TT had.
Today I got really lucky, thanks officer J, thanks CHP, I promise not to recklessly speed again, I do.

You sir, must have a horseshoe up your ****! In fact, I would fly directly to vegas and place your life savings on the blackjack table. You can't lose with that kind of luck!

Be careful out there...

Congrats on the car.

dude, you are the luckiest person!! I really think that Cops like Porsche drivers and hate BMW drivers for some reason.

I had a speeding ticket of $550 few weeks ago for doing 110mph in 65mph and a slight curve. I was driving the X5 and he was so mean to me! It was my first ticket and he did not let me go. A few days after that, I had another 100bcks ticket for blocking the intersection. It was green light when I passed the intersection and somehow I got stuck there and the light turned red and "RED YELLOW LIGHT behind me". I was with the X5 again and second ticket in 1 month, was so pissed, thank God this car is gone!

CHP normally don't use radar - they have to trail you and match your speed or use some other means of figuring out your speed.

If you want to stretch the legs of the car, go down by Pendleton - once you clear San Onfre - go nuts.

He probably let you go because he didnt clock you on radar and if you asked to see your speed he probably couldnt produce it.

Lucky either way

I got caught on Friday too, 90+ in a 45, also a terrible area to speed so I thought I was screwed. But the police officer was pretty nice, when he came back to my car without a ticket in his hand things started to look up.

He basically said 2 things re: speed
1) Yes he didn't have his radar on BUT
2) he used to be a moto traffic cop for 8 years so he DOES NOT need radar to ticket me. Not sure if that is true??

anyway he let me go and said he better not catch me speeding again in that area ... guess I won't be driving around there anymore

DON'T get a radar detector! If the cop would have seen it you would have been busted for sure! Besides, you may not have been able to get it slowed down in enough time, anyway.

Man, that is some CRAZY luck. My cousin's room-mate was busted doing that fast on a Ninja and they cut his license in half on the spot. The judge agreed.......

About last week, I got pulled over on I195 doing 87 in a 55 and got off with a written warning. The funny thing is I didnt even see the cop. When he pulled me over i was still doing 87.

I was also fortunate enough to get a verbal warning in my TT-Cab last Tuesday. I'm almost starting to feel that the PoPo understand that we're driving super sports cars and that a little "fun" now and then is understandable.

I'm positive that the best defense to getting pulled over is the "good" attitude! Be very courteous, make sure you use the word "Sir" every chance you get and thank them for cuting you a break! This helps us all! If the cops think that the Porsche owners in LA are a great bunch of guys then "maybe" we'll get some of them to join us!

Then we can really rip up the freeways!!

Great encounter and keep us up to "speed" on your mods!

not as lucky. Had the TT two years and then all of a sudden BAM BAM. One was a 72 in a 65 on my way to Rennsport Reunion II. The other was during a TSD porsche rally (time-speed-distance). Needless to say, 70 in a 55. To both of these state patrolmen, there was nothing I could say to change their minds. In both cases, when they checked my record, no previous violations (b/c the 1st was the first ticket and it was in SC and wiped on "faulty equipment"--no points, and the second was in a diff't state). Both times my wife was with me in the car, and both times were broad daylight, and both times were unmarked cars. The luck has changed. Should I change my plans to go to Vegas in first of Oct.? Or should I go and just not gamble?

I blew past as State Trooper sitting on the shoulder doing about 150 in my Vette a few years ago. That's the bad news ... the good news was he never clocked me or paced me. By the time he caught up I was pleasantly doing 55. He pulled me over, checked me out, told me to slow it down and gave me a written warning. I will never ***** about not getting a break again ...

Good story you have there ... it just goes to show, not all police officers are dicks!

I was speeding home once at night and merging freeways and I cut the Partol car off, didnt know, it, proceeded to speed in and out of traffic no signals. He hit the lights before my exit, I thought I was done for. He asks for my lic. and reg. I gave it to him. He comes back 5 min later and tells me he counted like 8 offenses on me and told me, "Take it easy on us out there". Got off with a warning. Crap... I love the nice ones and to tell you the truth there are more nice ones then *******s. I've been pulled over countless times and have only had two actual tickets written.

Congradulations and welcome to the lucky day club.

Edit: OT question but has anyone ever been pulled over and told the guy you have to take a dump really bad and if you don't get home you are going to drop a load in your pants. I have always wondered if that would work but I am inclined to think I am not the first genious with this idea. I bet they hear crap like that all the time.
