Need to renew my aftermarket warranty; Any references?

My PrimusCare warranty expires this month and I need to get another policy. Does anyone know of a good company? My car is a 2001 with 36k miles.....My current provider will offer me a renew policy which will cover 36 months or 36000 miles for $2900...just looking for other options. Deductable is also $250....

Any information would be greatly appreciated..

I have Fidelity Warranty's "GOLD" plan. However, I was warned by the dealership that sold me the plan that if Fidelity sent out an adjuster for a claim review, the warranty would be denied. What this means is that the dealership sold me a modified car, and a warranty to cover it. And apparently the warranty is not worth the paper it was printed on... That said, the dealership said they'd cover everything that breaks on it, but that ties me to a specific dealership, which doesn't make me happy... When my car went into limp mode last year at Watkins Glen, I brought it home and had them diagnose it... They ended up doing a MAF sensor, and it didnt fix it... That's when I realized i was going to have to start getting more involved with learning this car and diagnosing and fixing it myself... I have little faith in the place they referred me to...

That sounds reasonable. I had a very good experience with myaftermarket warranty company called Total Shield. For more info call Brian (west coast director of the company) 562.458.8197

Mike, I am about to purchase a car that has the Fidelity Warranty Service - Platinum plan. The car is stock, minus the suspension and the GT2 trunk. Are you saying that the warranty is not worth it b.c they sold you a modified car or b.c the warranty company sucks?

Fidelity has a reputation of disputing a lot of claims and one of their "loop holes" is thru modifications to the vehicle. If you search on line, you'll see a lot of unhappy customers...

Had I known that there was an issue with the coverage, I'd have not paid for it, especially since the car was sold to me in modified condition...

Get a copy of the warranty contract.

There are two kinds of exclusions:

1. We will not cover any losses which are due to modifications to the car.

2. We will not cover any losses if the car has been modified.

Both are permitted in an aftermarket warranty language (#1 is allowed in a new car warranty, #2 is NOT allowed in a new car warranty)

Having said this, #1 can be enforced unfairly... or simply the company can be capricious: deny coverage for stupid reasons and force you to sue.

In all my time I've only read of one person who successfully prevailed over an aftermarket insurer. Took him two years to get a new motor for his M5.

In any event, it is better than nothing- but anyone buying a car should not let their 'guard' down with PPIs, and defects at purchase, just because there is a warranty...

PS To the OP: California has funny rules.. you will find a very limited choice of good warranties if you reside in CA. And very expensive. (CA has strict requirements on financial underwriting to limit some of the fly-by-night fiascos of the past...)

Did some research on this below. I think EasyCare is the one to go with. Do a search, there's actually tons of info on this board. Good luck..
