After many saves the V-1 alerted me to the laser a little too late - IT WAS ON ME! I was clocked at 85 in a 55MPH zone on I84 in CT late last night.

After the sobriety test (I guess the officer assumed that all 40 something yr olds, dressed in a tuxedo, driving fast at 85MPH must be under the influence - well I proved him wrong on that one!) I was presented with a summons for $279.

As I'm sure you all know - there is no radar detector better than the V1 - but it doesn't help much when they use Laser.

 

Unfortunately, laser detectors are too little too late. Once you detect it, you are nailed.

Get a laser jammer. Lidatek has them or the passport srx has them.

They work too!

 

I use my Valentine in combination with an Escort ZR3 laser jammer (or "shifter," as they call it) -- the combo is great.

 

A yes, I forgot about the ZR3.

Where did you mount the Lidatek transmitors? I don't have a front license plate, and would rather not run one...

Beastpower has a really cool setup for M5 and Porsche that mount the display of both your Valentine V-1 and Lidatek LE 20 in your rear view mirror.

Looks way cool.

 

Ideally, the laser jammers should be mounted in the nose of the car, near or around where the license plate is.

Better protection comes from two units on either side of the plate (or where the plate would be). That helps cover more frontal surface area that the laser can be aimed at.

High on Windshield is less then ideal for laser jamming but ideal of radar detection.

 

I had the two transponders for the ZR3 mounted to the bumper (i.e., drilled into the metal bumper, not the bumper cover) behind the center grill (on either side of where the front license plate would be, if I had one). The ZR3 installer was not able to do this, as it required removing the front bumper cover. So, I had the local Porsche body shop mount the transponders and run the wires into the trunk. From there, the ZR3 installer finished the job. A bit of a pain and not cheap, but it looks great (i.e., can't see the transponders) and works perfectly.

 

Has anyone tried the K-40 system? I have the detector section (no laser) in my Lamborghini adn like that quite a bit. Looking for input.

I've installed the Lidatek transponders from the front bumper. Maybe these pics will help someone. I was planning on doing the rear view mirror install, but decided on mounting it in a more obscure area. Didn't like the fact that the V1 lights would be very noticeable from the rear, and you would have to take your eyes off the road to see the lights. I had changed out the small red lights with different colored LEDs so all the bands are color coded. Much brighter and easier to decipher what bands and power source, from my peripheral vision.

Has the Lidatek saved you ??? How often do you get hit by laser? They use it quite a bit in my area.

 

Hi Gary, I have been saved a few times in my area. The local PD and surrounding local Pd has started to use the laser. I havent' been hit lately. After installing, I got hit with laser the first week. When the V1 and Lidatek alarm went off at the same time and all the lights lit up, it scared the hell out of me! The wierd thing was I could see the strength of the beam pattern as I watched the cop paint my car back and forth on my V1!
