people that blew engines? how did it happen. under what conditions?
John, colorinc is right, it corrodes the inatakes, the wg valves , and its hard on plugs . and you would deffinately need some sort of fail safe cuase if for some reason you run out and something happens you will grenade your motor.
Bobby has a meth kit on his car for a year now.... it does mess things up. But it does keep the heads cool... so there is always a trade off....

Tim,
Have you heard for sure that corrosion is a byproduct of the meth injection? I have heard that it's not true and that any engine that has run meth that has been taken apart is spotless and clean in the Heads and combustion chambers with no carbon buildup. No mention of corrosion.
The aspect that really concerns me is if the system fails for any reason, you must have immediate warning, so that you don't go boosting at WOT without the meth system doing it's job. A proper system should alert the driver if power to the meth pump fails, pressure in the meth lines drops, the meth tank is low, meth nozzles clog, etc.

Meth is corrosive is certain situations....none that really come into play when injection with a mix of at least 50% water. Heat and combustion remove all ability for methanol to have any lasting contact with metal components. The pump used in most modern WI systems is rated for use with up to 50% of corrosive solvent.
Basically like any after market automotive product, if a water/meth system is installed and set up properly there are no negative effects.
Correct. A fail safe is standard in all aquamist hsf1 or hsf5 kits.
We install as a power interrupt to the stock boost control valve or after market boost controller. This will instantly lower boost to wastegate spring.
Ifs you consider lower IAT's, making your car less prone to detonation and the ability to run more ignition advance to good to be true, then your correct
.
i asked Todd about it and thats what he told me. they use it but theres some tradeoffs. but now that gas is getting crapyer and crappyer people are going to be forced to use it just to bring oct levels up. gas here in Pa is diluted with 10 % ethanol.
Im up to ~5 on 996's and climbing.
Both Audi and Porsche use a bosch me7 ecu, both have turbo engines, both are nearly the same compression.....the similarities go on. Im not seeing much difference.
also monitor EGT's, AFR's, temps etc.
Been used for at least 5 years on porsche 996s by some tuners. Not sure about the results on the street though for the 60-130s of this world other than the wow effect or butt dyno explanations. At the track with heat soak, there are more chances of it making a difference.
Tom, what sort of datalogger are you using in your car for EGTs etc..?

40% Water/Meth allowed me to run 12lbs boost with no intercooler and tons of timing in a 7.4L Suburban for years. A far cry from a Pcar, but I think the principals of more boost, more timing and less heat add up to a fairly obvious immediate increase in power - given the system is tuned accordingly.
