Fuel pump whining.... going out?

My fuel pump has been making a loud whining noise that started a few days ago. The car still runs fine but I am wondering if this is a sign it is failing?

Checked the pump today for loose fittings and everything was tight. Should I replace it to be on the safe side??

I finally replaced my fuel pump tonite and the car is purring like a kitten. The bottom of the old pump looked like the seal gave out and it squirt some grease looking stuff out the bottom.

Thanks for all the help everyone.

Yes, you either have a bad fuel pump or fuel filter (clogged).
