Factory Navigation install in a 2003 GT2?
Is it possible to install a factory navigation in a 2003 GT2?
In my other 996 non-turbo, I removed the radio and installed the factory navigation. I brought the car to porsche and they programmed it with no problems.
I was told that the GT2 doesn't have the upgraded sound system and the navigation unit may not be compatible. Not sure if this is true.. If anyone has any idea can you let me know..
Thanks... John

I am in the process of doing the same install in my 2004 GT3. I believe we will have the same install. My car does not have the bose upgrade and I believe all GT3's did not have any bose amp up front in the tub. While all the rest of 996's did, except GT3's and GT2's, regardless if you had the bose upgrade or not. If you had the bose upgrade option you just had a different amp. So when I plugged in the 2.1 pcm everything worked except I had no sound. So now the next step is to install the bose amp that I get with the pcm. So you have to bring all of the speaker wires forward to the amp, and wire in the amp, then connect the optical cable from the amp to the pcm. I haven't done this yet, so I cant confirm. Also it would be great to just program the pcm to turn on its internal amp and stop searching for the external bose amp, but from what I have been told the 2.1 pcm doesn't have an internal amp. So at this point I think it can be done, but I have yet to finish it.
I just did the install and it worked ! I removed the old cdr-23 radio, installed all brackets and moved the a/c controlls to the bottom. I installed the pcm navigation and used the same plugs. My old radio came with a plug that loops the fiber cable. I used the same plug and plugged it into the navigation unit. Whats that does is it loops the fiber plug back into itself. It loops the (in) to the (out). I plugged all connectors the same way my old radio was plugged in and my navigation works. The internal amp is working. I do get an error every time the car starts which says "Error, the internal amp is not found" but I press ok and everything works.

It just makes the dash look so much better. It also sounds better than the cdr-23.
The factory nav looks like it belongs there compared to the aftermarket ones. Car looks and sounds so much better and it doesnt weigh the car down.. LoL
