Limits of the stock intake piping?
A month ago I was looking at hotrodding a stock tt with k24/20's.
At first I didn't want to spend the cash on the intake/pumps/injectors. From my research I came to realize the Protomotive intake was one of the best bang for bucks upgrade when it comes to engine mods.
I'd highly recommend it.
Colorinc, what exactly was going on with your new turbo setup?

John, which are the ribbed hoses refererd to?
Red,
This style, which I have seen a few variations of, as well. I can envision any rubbing against the fire wall or motor (which is likely to happen), wearing through this type of hose very easily ...and you would never know or see it due to the location, so you could potentially end up unknowingly sucking unfiltered air into your turbos and engine for an extended amount of time...just my thoughts, but enough of a concern for me to avoid this style when I was choosing. I liked the solid substance of the EVOMS pipes. They instilled confidence in terms of reliabilty and durability, for me. For this upgrade, I feel EVOMS has the superior design from a reliabilty aspect. I think they could probably improve the plenum a bit (for more flow), as they modify the rear portion of the OEM plenum to accept the pipes and do not touch the main body of the plenum, but IMO, the EVO pipes are the perfect choice of material for this application.

question what should i be looking for trans , mount? i have a new sachs clutch
Maybe some cracks like this - both sides of mine were cracked. Not sure if it was the 75,000 miles and age, 40 - 1/4 mile passes or daily exercise that caused the failure:

Do you have photo from the right hand side? Tia.
Red,
If I recall correctly, when the carbon intake was first introduced several years ago, someone had a rock come up and shatter it, which in turn sent pieces into the turbo - damaging the turbo blades. This is what tuned me into the potential issues with this modification. On one hand, it is desirable to increase fresh air to the turbos on higher HP applications, but on the other hand it has been shown there are potential downsides, if not done in a well designed and thought out manner.
Here is a picture of the right side - you can see what EVO does, they weld 70mm extensions on bottom, rear of the factory plenum, then the pipes are coupled with silicon hose and clamps. It's a very solid connection, just like the pipes:

hey john
thanks for the info!! did you replace with stock mounts? do you know where i can get the x73 mounts? about the flex intake tubing: do you think you would get a MAF code if there was a hole poked in the flex tubing(un-metered air picked up by the 02 sensors) rich/lean? just a thought

Unfortunately I have never see an alternative for the mount. It is onlt a few hundred though so I say change it even if it's borderline. I have the FVD flex tubing (very thick and strong) but I think the hard pipe is good aswell. S-Car-Go carbon is the Gucci.
