Yes I know it does say that, He said the reason is bc the friction modifiers in the oil may be to slipery for the syncros, he said you may have differences in the feel of the trans and how it shifts into gears. If you ask me if can can improve less on friction of the syncro sounds good to me, but im not an expert on trans. I drove the vehicle and It felt just like oem to me without all the aftermarket noise ha

josh4hem, glad to hear you had some improvement. Please tell me how does your setup feel? Is it smooth/progressive or more on/off? Does your left foot feel it grab, or is it numb like the stock setup? Any stalling issues? Does it release at the bottom, midway or top of the pedal stroke? Thanks!

The clutch set up is very good, The clutch grabs about midway its a full disk clutch so its very streetable not to much on/off feel but much more improved over stock. There is little improvement on feed back from the clutch. I wanted to do a gt2 slave and master conversion from evoms to get rid of the accumulator assist and improve on the feedback but too much involved have to take power steering pump apart and remove coupling to stop the pressure going to the slave. 6 hour job total plus $995 for the kit. Plus im not to sure If want to have to be pressing on that modified diaphragm in the pressure plate all day ha. I dont have any stalling or erratic idling issues as I understand the asaco flywheel is one of the heaviest ones only by a couple pounds so its a happy medium. Plus I still get noticeable improved throttle response. The launch is hard to judge if its better though bc I did a rwd conversion same time as clutch. Wow night and day!!
Hope that helped

Josh, how's the Redline Shockproof working out for you? Do you remember how many quarts you used? I might be doing some maintenance next week so I'm thinking about doing this as well.

careful with your choice of fluids. and be advised that while porsche uses mobil1 they also have a special formuaion. The factory is the Mobil1 delvac, whch has a different formulation/friction modifier from the regular mobil 1 and redline and swepco.... products. I would only use the Delvac and from my experience several people who went with LWF (which i've now had in my two previous pcas) had just regula mobil1. Then when they went to the delvac product their taranny nosie got a lot better!

Ok, I can help a little here.

LWFW from UMW is in (964RS unit) and sachs racing clutch...UMW.

I had my 2nd gear done at DAS (the bar people)....did all of my syncros. I did the Powerhaus/Eric@carquip mods so that I should not have another 2nd gear popout ever again. +about 50$ in machining!

Fill: every guru in the country said go with the factory stuff, oem. It is a mobil one fluid. Delvac was in it just prior that I got via Lefteknic (sp?)...at about 40/gallon. That stuff is fine. Nothing else is "ok" according to many people. I checked with 8 tuners/tranny shops/race shops.

No difference in the noise. OEM to delvac. The oem is probably the same stuff....just cost more. We got the current fluids from Porsche....just to be as safe as possible. I plan to change it out every 15k miles now. Why, because I want to do so. Probably overkill. I don't care.

DO NOT USE generic mobil 1.

One shop, who I will not name, suggested swepco and told me of all the guys using it with big HP cars in their area that they service. I am sure it is nice.

BUT, I am staying factory. I have a bunch of degrees and have solved come protein structures with crystallography and with NMR and been around the chemistry block a bunch with a PhD. A real one....and synthetics are just going to do a better job in general.

Sure, old school is cool, and I am sure the advantages are not huge in a warm place, but I get -10F to 100F weather and the factory fill is what I want....

SO, you noise is normal. Tom Kerr's comments were spot on. You may trash a tranny if you use the wrong fluid....and you will be without much support from a cpo or warranty company....my total job was about 4k for all the syncros, forks, labor, etc. FYI.

I'd switch fluids if there was good data out there to do so. Getting things quiet based on what people tell you is not, in my mind, performance data. Where is the data?

jeff
