Intake question

Hi Guys:

i have been getting some mixed advice from people.

which yields more power?

1. an intake kit (IE. Agency power)
2. Drop in K&N or BMC filter.

most tell me that the aftermarket kits are just for looks. But i really doubt that you can gain 15-20 hp just by changing out the filter.

does anyone here have an opinion as to what the best intake is?

OK I'll bite...you posted this to get the definitive answer as you are getting mixed advice....guess what you will always get mixed advice on the intake. My thoughts (JMHO) are the intake has some effect on input air (volume and temperature). There is a limit to the volume as it still goes through the same plumbing (not getting into the change of plumbing diameters)...there is however an advantage to getting cold air in (especially for me at altitude). I don't think dynos can truly tell you what you are getting for an upgraded intake as the dyno simply can not reproduce the typical airflow when driving. Which one is the best...will also depend on your programming and other hardware. I use the Sportec and Dan (Vivid) has a similar product available as well. As far as filters...I think one common agreement is be cautious of oiled filters (e.g., K&N and BMC)...that is not to say don't use them, just be sure they aren't over oiled. Don't think you get much if anything from those filters except longevity compared with stock filters...that being said I use the BMC as it came free with my Sportec. Flame away!

For power levels up to 550hp Dans airbox (carbon one)works great and adds noticeable power and torque gains.Above that(with k24/18g turbos and over)the stock air flow is getting very sensitive to failure so use the stock airbox with a kn or BMC drop in air filter. But remebmer, when you get the new filter, wash it with soap so to remove any oil and of course do not spray it with anykind of spray for airfilters...

Check this out - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/a...i4j5in0orth560

On our Aluminum and Carbon Fiber Cold Air intake, over 20 HP gained. See the dyno sheet here - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/w...ynosuccess.jpg

If you want something more OEM that uses the stock style panel filter or a K&N, check out our Agency Power DUAL FLOW carbon air intake - http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/a...5-p-54604.html

Ultimately you will gain more HP with our cold air intake kits then using just a flat panel. Many guys like our new Dual Flow design because they like the stock air box and want to just increase air flow. Check the vendor classifieds above as we are running a clearance special on the aluminum boxes.

Good Luck!
