clutch hydraulics

I searched but couldn't find out if anybody has had problems with the hydraulic boost on the clutch causing the clutch to slip with increasing revs.
The mechanic chose to bleed the system prior to dropping the tranny and it improved the clutch slip significantly. He said the fluid looked old and was low.
I'm confused. Can excees pressure build up from the pwr steering pump cause the slave cylinder to engage without the pedal being pushed?

The brakes and the clutch share fluid, and there is a procedure (search for it on RennTech) to bleed the clutch, and I did that on my 99 C2 to get better engagement lower down, but usually there is little improvement. ... but the power steering pump has little to do with your clutch. You may be seeing your clutch accumulator going bad...it happens more frequently than I'd like to admit....just changed out mine. You can also have a slave cylinder go bad since they are known to go bad at the same time...

When you say that "the hydraulic boost on the clutch causing the clutch to slip with increasing revs".....that doesn't sound right because your explanation doesn't make sense...but it sounds to me like you simply need a new clutch. Put the car in third gear while you're drivng around 40mph and stomp on it....if you see your rpms shoot up and smell the clutch, you need a new one. Some of the guys just go ahead and change out the slave and acumulator while they have the clutch out....I only changed the accumulator and still have the orignial clutch with 33K on it and a flashed ECU. I imagine I'll need a clutch pretty soon with the increased HP and torque.

Chuck, That's incorrect. On the 996TT the clutch hydraulic fluid is PENTOSIN, NOT conventional brake fluid. The clutch system is linked to the power steering system.

Kirk, I've never heard of the system building pressure on its own like that... You might have an issue with the power steering pump. That's odd for sure.

Thanks for the response; I just want to make sure I don't go and replace a clutch just to find out the hydraulics are causing the slip and will cause a new clutch to wear prematurely. So far it looks like I'll be going with the clutchmaster setup. It may be overkill but I don't race and want something that lasts.

I have the clutchmaster "sprung" clutch with Sachs999/ fulcrum mod setup and would recommend you spring for the extra and swap in the Gt2 Hydraulic clutch setup and get rid of the stock pentosin based system all together.
