Newbie here! Some quick ???'s

Hi all,

I will be taking delivery of an '03 Seal Gray/Black TT with the aerokit in a couple months. I have been browsing this board for a while now and I think its one of the best out there!

I am from Massachusettes and was wondering if any of you guys know of a very good Porsche tech that you could recommend? I am planning to do some mods to the car so any feedback would greatly be appreciated.

Second of all, I am planning to install a short shifter for my car since I feel that the stock shifter is still too long. I see that some people have the TechArt short shifter and others have the B&M. Are there any major differences between the two? Which do you prefer and why?

Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself and thanks for making this board so useful and fun!

Hi and welcome!

I have the EVO Short Shifter and I am very happy with it. Check out this discussion about shifters:

Welcome

I'm in my 5th Porsche with the B&M short shifter. The breakage that some people are having is mostly due to drag racing and tracking their cars. In all the excitement of being on the track and what have you they try to shift too fast and they too hard. So they brake the plastic at the end of the cables not anything on the short shifter. I have had in my shop an almost equal number of broken cable ends on both factory and short shifter cars. I have over 40 customers running 986 & 996 cars in both Drivers Ed. and Club Racing.

Welcome. As for the short shifter I can only recommend the B&M shifter as I have not had a chance to try others. I can say that the B&M shifter is definately a worth while modification. Like bobc4s has stated, shifting too fast will break loose the shift linkage. This is just something you may want to keep in mind.

Hope this helps.
